Okay this must be a legit joke. DuckTales??? WTF Disney?!
I bet there's a dodgy Arab in the Lamp movie, as was the style at the time.

I still never got why there is a content warning at the beginning of Daleks Invasion Earth.

Wyler refers to himself as a useless cripple or some such rather than handicapable. It’s quite a touching character moment, a brash character showing vulnerability, but enough to give conniptions to a blue-haired sensitivity viewer so, trigger warning.

Is that the actual reason?

No, it isn't. Studiocanal actually puts the exact warning on numerous older films they release.

It’s a guess in my part. Can’t think of anything else that would be an issue.

WARNING! - This film is bland beyond measure: no racism, sexism, bad language, violence, petulant behaviour, bad attitudes , people being mean to each other.

Just how did we survive without these warnings? Oh god, they were terrible times

It's supposed to be a riff on Indiana Jones, of course people are going to act like that! Disney, the amateurs...

The warning I referred to are only on a handful of episodes of series itself. It was on episodes where for example they traveled to some country in South America, and depicted indigenous people as clueless savages, or in some other culturally insensitive manner.

Don't worry guys - I think I've solved the problem!
They just need to start putting trigger warnings in front of the content advisory warnings!

I've mocked this one up - if Ben from the BFI is here, please do feel free to use it...

Can we put a warning in the thread title that this thread is currently mostly about content warnings?

I don’t mind if people take offence at films.

I wouldn’t mind too much about warnings on disc sleeves as long as they weren’t mealy mouthed, eg.“…don’t reflect who we are as a company.” I reserve the right to jeer at them if they’re silly, though.

It’s screen clutter I dislike.

Also making the main character, a tightfisted miser, Scottish....

Seriously. Every time I enter this thread thinking I'll find some actual news I walk away disappointed. This is far more annoying than any disclaimer.

It seems like either mods are needed to come in and sweep up the detritus left over from culture wars sparring, or a special AOB thread is alloted for those who wish to perpetuate such discussions further. Once you've blocked the main offenders, and add in those who persist in stoking the fires, certain threads begin to resemble Swiss cheese, with one or two lonely contributions trying to provide substance and remain on-topic. This is not why most of us originally come to these boards I suspect, and it's turning this place into somewhere to be avoided.

At least all this talk of content warnings is actually relevant to the discs. Most threads on here spend too much time talking about postage issues and when something is or isn’t going to be dispatched which is nothing to do with the product but postal service administration

Agreed. I mean, I get someone expressing their view and all. But the need to incessantly say the same thing again, and again, and again; and yet again. Well, that's what drags the thread down. We got it first time; saying it another 20 times aint enlightening. Here we are days (weeks?) later, and the white noise won't stop.

Now, getting back to actual releases... What do we make of the BFI Bergman sets? Like BFI's Akerman release(s), do they benefit from better encodes? The Criterion encode of at least two of the Akerman releases were extraordinarily shoddy. Both ruined the beautiful texture of the 16mm film. I suppose I'm asking this: on Bergman, do I get the BFI or Criterion?

I’m curious about how small the print run was for the Akerman set. It sold out very quickly and there were warnings from Ben on Facebook that it wouldn’t last long. Why didn’t they do a bigger run?

Having originally splurged on the Criterion box set, I didn't feel the need to go for the BFI releases in general, but I did pick up BFI volume 1 as it contains (IIRC) 4 films not in the Criterion set.
