I spoke to BT vision regarding this last week. The guy I spoke to said they have not heard anything of this new VOD service (which I find highly unlikely).

Still hoping the BT vision STB gets this via an update soon...

Any news yet on what extras will be on the BFI's Blu-ray/DVD Dual Edition of Gaslight, and will there be any further DVD/Blu-ray titles being released as part of the BFI's Gothic season beyond the titles being released on 18th November (not including Beauty and the Beast, posted about on Blu-ray.com's main website page)? Looking forward to the BFI's DVD releases of Dead of Night and Supernatural.

They're releasing Nosferatu the Vampyre(1979).

Pro B will you be reviewing the French disc of La Belle et la Bete?

Movie Mail doesn't list any extras, and they list extras for the other 11/18 BFI discs (ditto the BFI's website), so perhaps there aren't any?

Do we have any idea about when they are going to release Herzog's NOSFERATU? Are we talking this year or 2014?

Spring 2014. Was anticipating Herzog's Aguirre, the Wrath Of God myself as they announced it back in April and it still hasn't been released! My guess is there will be a bunch of Herzog releases all out at once - including Aguirre the Wrath of God and Nosferatu the Vampyre at the very least, and The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser too at some point. There was mention of a 'Werner Herzog Collection', so who knows - maybe the BFI are restoring a lot of his earlier works! I hope so, he's my favourite director

You obviously could or you would have gotten a region A player and the Criterion edition three years ago.

Thanks for the info, rapta.

Can't wait to see what they have in store for us. Especially since Shout! Factory have said they are not sure they are going to release everything on blu.

Hi, I'm in the U.S. and, having heard of and enjoyed the majority of the films BFI has released, I'm intrigued by several of their films I've never had a chance to see (and, in some cases, have never even heard of).

Any thoughts on blind buys of the following titles? Which ones stand out as exceptional to you? What other films or directors' work would you compare these titles to?

Anti-Clock
Bronco Bullfrog
Herostratus
Man of Violence/Big Switch
Permissive
Private Road
Separation
Sleepwalker
Trans-Europ Express

Any UK-produced titles in the collection you'd recommend to a big fan of filmmakers like Fassbinder, Wiseman, Zulawski, Mike Leigh?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

As you're a fan of Zulawski and Fassbinder I'd recommend Herostratus and Separation.

Do you mean Frederick Wiseman? If so maybe some of the documentary sets would appeal to you. My favourite is A Day In The Life: Four Portraits Of Post-war Britain By John Krish.

Thanks! Yes, Frederick Wiseman--particularly his work from the late 60s into the mid-80s.

I would avoid Permissive, which I found incredibly exploitative and an overall very stupid movie.
Man of Violence was quite some fun. It's quite light hearted, but very fun and entertaining.
But my personal favourite among the Flipside is Herostratus. It's an incredible piece of movie, playing with edits to generate associating ideas and all. It is for sure a trip before anything, but I think it's fascinating.

Also, I watched Sleepwalker this week end and was disappointed by it. It's very cynical, which is something I liked, but even if clocking at only 50 min, I found it quite boring overall.

Outside of your list, I think Lunch Hour is a beautiful movie which should be given a chance if you haven't seen it yet. Lavish presentation, on top of it.

Thanks a lot for your thoughts! Herostratus is definitely inching its way to the top of my list, and I'll add Lunch Hour to my wish list as well.

I believe it's Permissive that uses music from the band Comus, which raised my curiosity level quite a bit.

Permissive has great music in it and the film itself is OK.
