Thoughts on Private Road? What sort of tone does that film have? The trailer intrigued me.

I forgot this one, which I enjoyed a lot. I love Punishment Park, and found that Privilege has a very cynical tone not far away from Punishment Park.

I haven't seen it yet but I've been told it's pretty bleak.

On the topic of BFI's Flipside titles - I thought The Party's Over was fantastic. Everybody else seems to hate it, though, so my opinion might not hold any weight.

I see Robert Wise's 1963 frightener The Haunting is about to be released in the US.

Did I completely dream it, or was there a UK release announced a while back? Not sure whether it was BFI or MoC, or if in fact it never even happened at all, but I could have sworn ...

There's no listing in the database on this site, so maybe that means it Just Didn't Happen.

Anyone else have any knowledge of this?

I know there is also a upcoming release in Spain, i suspect this will be one of those releases where we are some months behind the US and the rest of Europe.

The US and Spain release are both Warner, i would expect the same in the UK when it happens.

Thanks Modman, so no specific release announced, but it wasn't just a case of my eating cheese too close to bedtime.

I guess I'll just keep my eyes open.

That's the red cover with the couple right? It's not that bleak in my opinion. It's a love story basically.

I bought this one sight-unseen, solely because it was Peter Watkins. But now I'm very pleased to have it in my collection — well worth a spin.

I wonder if we'll ever see The War Game on Blu? Or Culloden?

I've not heard anything either, but I would love BFI (or MoC) to release this on bluray. One of my all time favourite horror films.

Here's hoping. There's a lot of BBC stuff that the BFI should release.

There's no chance. BFI had to fight hard just to release The Devils on dvd.

It'd be cool if they put some of the Sunday-Night Theatre episodes out. In particular Nineteen Eighty-Four.

I only tend to import titles when the UK edition is not up to scratch, or there is no sign of a UK release (or even if the packaging looks rubbish compared to another version, such as the Jean Rollin Redemption blurays).

If there is any sign of a BFI or MoC release, I prefer to wait as it will probably be the better release, plus I'm supporting UK publishers.

Settle, petal.

The reason I asked about a BFI or MoC release in the first place is because I think they have a better chance of giving it a substantial supporting package; the US release of this title only has a faux-commentary track pieced together from interviews.

And frankly, I usually prefer the look of BFI and MoC packaging. Yes, I know, the film is what matters primarily; but if that's equal, then I choose which edition I buy based on supporting features and appearance. I doubt I'm anywhere near being alone in that.

That one would be cool. The ones I'd most like to see are the Ken Russell and Alan Clarke productions. The BBC released a boxset of the former in the US several years ago but its bafflingly MIA in the UK.

Other than packaging and one containing a DVD, are there significant differences between this edition:

...and this one?

^^No, it's just a double-format reissue a la many of their earlier blu releases, such as Red Desert and The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner.

Separation is intriguing and is on my BFI wishlist, but never seems to be on 'sale' like other BFI, Flipside releases appear to be from time to time at various online outlets.

Thanks. I find the original release cover a lot more appealing, to the point that I would probably pay a bit more for that edition.

There is an Amazon vendor with the dual-format for £6.99 right now--do the BFI Flipside releases typically dip much lower than that in price?

Not really on the face...that's actually a pretty decent price for it, but since it's a vendor, remember the VAT is not subtracted PLUS there's the shipping cost, which is higher than the standard Amazon price if multiple items are taken into account (I see you're in the US as well).

At other retailers (Zavvi, Base, and Amazon among others), you will often see these titles below 9.99 GBP.

Ebay is not a bad place to look, either...I've found quite a few UK releases, BFI or otherwise, on there for solid prices.
