Blade 2
Memories Of Murder
I Saw The Devil

Thanks for this list, this is definitely my preferred aspect ratio. With 2.35:1 even full height objects look small on my projector, it's just not particularly immersive. Look at the last Batman film, the 16:9 scenes looked vastly superior. And Tron Legacy.
With films only having a short theatrical run they're mostly seen in the home, and bands of no information convey what? With more movies being shot digitally with the home in mind, hopefully the wider ratios will fade away, they simply don't match human vision.

I'm not sure why some people are still so bothered by "black bars". I can't say I really notice them. If I watch a movie in a dark room, it looks like they are part of the screen to me.

Black bars (on top/bottom or left/right sides) aren't the problem. The problem is that a lot of filmmakers are inept at using the frame, no matter the aspect ratio.

Depnding on the type of film it is, but enjoy both 1.85:1 and 2.39:1 films.

I am not sure why 1.85 is listed as being "fullscreen".

While it is close, they are not fullscreen when TV is set to 16:9 (black bars top, bottom and sides)

This is a great list and all... but I dont really see the point of just naming the movies here... Im supposed to type these one by one to imdb :E? why not put up links for every movie?

I'm not sure why anything apart from 1.78:1 BDs are listed. The only thing I can think of is that with some displays, if they're not 1:1 capable, then they'll lose the letterboxing with 1.85:1 and overscan.

All Blu-rays are 16:9, but only 1.78:1 fills the entire screen.

Your list is really going to help with my current UHD 4K Blu-Ray purchases. I can't stand the letterboxed black bars. Sure some content feels more "cinematic" in aspect ratios outside of 1.78:1 but considering all of our TVs are 16x9 widescreen u'd think far more content would be conceived and presented in this standardized format

Not this futile argument once again. I feel like it's 2002 all over again when I was working at Blockbuster and explaining to customers what aspect ratios are.

Probably 2002 is the year this guy was born, definitely a tiresome subject.

I saw this thread and thought to myself, "isn't this what the BD database is for?" but I guess not...
