How about a TV with a screen that changes aspect ratio according to the actual films aspect ratio. Sort of like in a movie theater when they move the top and bottom tier accordingly.

There is such a thing, but you'll pay a pretty penny for it. There's actually a couple guys on here that have plenty of money that have different size project screens for different aspect ratio. I know one guy has a 2.40:1 fixed screen and then a 1.78:1 pull down screen that comes in front of it when he wants to watch something in 1.78:1 or 1.85:1.

is there even a need for this list? The aspect ratio is the aspect ratio...just don't see the necessity of this list.

I'm not trolling, please tell me what is the benefit of having this list? I'm being serious.

From the opening post to this thread:
"Imagine my disapointment when I rent/buy and find out that most Blu-Ray's are in OAR or some kind of aspect ratio that do not go full screen."
This thread is based upon the principle that people only want to watch movies that are natively 1.78:1 and that any other aspect ratio is a waste of their screen...2.39:1 movies are hated on this thread because they don't "Fill up" their screen...

Should the Bluray of, THE DARK KNIGHT, be listed here or only partially here? Since the screen goes back and fourth between 1:78 and 2:40.

I don't know what you have been smoking, but directors don't purposely put black bars in their films. Sounds kind of absurd.
I'm guessing you have never ever been to a movie theater.
Before you make weird outlandish statements about filmmaking, do yourself a favor and actually go out and see a movie in a movie theater.

It's not here so people can pick which movies to watch and buy based exclusively on aspect ratio - it's just a reference. If someone prefers having the image cover their entire screen, they can reference the list, find movies that they already enjoy and buy them.

Default OMG I sincerely apologize

OMG why am I only getting a email notification now?!?!?!?!?!

I am SOOOO sorry everyone. Last time I had checked this thread, it seemed to be dying and no real new submissions! There have been times where it would go months without any new posts. I thought this was one of those times...I am so sorry. I am going to update right now.

Honestly, you guys can feel free to PM me or email me at simplepinoi177@yahoo.com if I fall this far behind because, apparently, the forum.bluray.com doesn't necessarily keep on top of sending me those instant notifications. It seems if I don't check each instant email notice or go into the forum, it won't email me anymore until I do those things.

You can also add The Pacific (1.78:1) to the list while you're updating.

Red face

So I know/acknowledge that it has been an extremely long time since I last posted/updated this list;meaning replying to some of your posts/comments/questions is extremely overdue. Again, I apologize and even though it is extremely overdue, I will still respond to your posts, even if you don't follow this thread anymore. Again, I am sorry.

But I am very happy to see that this list is still going relatively strong and there are still people out there who refer to this list currently (and, unfortunately for my mistake, have been out of touch with the most updated and felt strongly enough to complain).

Thank you all for your contributions. Hopefully you guys believe in the mantra "better late than never," but I have finally gotten them integrated to the list and wanted to thank you guys again for contributing to it.

It is interesting that you quote from the first post of this thread and yet neglect to remember/mention the reasoning for the need of this list that was in that first post as well. As I've mentioned numerous times in this whole thread, the benefit of this list is to have a list of blurays that will definetely display fullscreen on your tv whether it states it on the box/facts or not because the difference between this list and any other search engine results list / uniqueness of this list is because all the movies/blurays that are in the list were contributed by users of this forum who can attest and confirm with their physical eyes that these movies display fullscreen. There are many instances where it states/facts that it in one aspect ratio but display in another aspect ratio. There are some instances noted in this actual list. This is why.
Also, "this thread is based upon the principle that people only want to watch movies that are natively 1.78:1 and that any other aspect ratio is a waste of their screen...2.39:1 movies are hated on this thread because they don't "Fill up" their screen" is wrong because of what I had just stated in the paragraph before as well as this list is merely used as a reference of which movies will display fullscreen confirmed by actual people and not just taken from facts given by the studio. It does not mean/imply any more or less than that and it benefits those who wish to refer to it and/or believe similarly as those who are also in this thread. And as for being disappointed and looking down on anything furthur than 1.85:1 (not that I feel this way), to each their own/it's a free country. Should let people feel disappointed or negative for whatever they want to.

Yes I have been pondering this as well. Another movie to add to this predicament is the 2nd Transformers movie; Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen because it also includes scenes that were tailor made for IMAX screens and therefor had the OAR of 1.78:1. The way I see it, for a few minutes/fraction of the movie it IS fullscreen, but for the rest/most of it, it is not. That is why I do not include it. But maybe I should just put it in the list and note that it is only certain scenes. What do you think? I'll act upon what you/anyone has to say on it. Thank you for bringing it up though.

Again, I truly apologize for not updating the thread. I know "not getting an email notification" is a weak excuse so I am still very sorry for it. As I stated before, I hope you guys believe in the mantra "Better late than never." I am happy though that you guys still refer to the list and enjoy the fruits of it.

Again, I am very sorry and I will try my best to not let this happen again. And as I had said in my previous post, please feel free to pm me or email me at simplepinoi177@yahoo.com if I get behind again and/or need to update the list; not that I am charging any of you that you have to inform me or i won't update the list. I just dont' wish to for this to happen again and I figure I can't rely on myself and the bluray forum to remind me to check here. Thank you all for your patience and understanding.
