If Zapperbox wants someone for testing in the Washington, DC area I am available. I was a broadcast engineer and I already get over 40 ATSC 1.0 stations (includes sub-channels) on my three 4K TVs.

I will gladly pass this along.

I believe you know this, but I was a TV Broadcast systems engineer from 1986- 2001. I worked for Ikegami and later for Hitachi Denshi and covered all of North and South America.

Prefer some of the modern UHF Yagi antenna designs to these UHF reflective array antennas, better gain less clutter on a roof.

Agreed, I would only use a Yagi antenna, no wind load to worry about and easy to install.

I have two antennas located in my attic one pointed at the Washington DC stations and the other pointed at the Baltimore stations. With this setup I get all the DC stations and four Baltimore stations.

Thanks for the tip Paul! I've been considering a motorized rotator, but combining two Yagi's is a better solution.

Or place a 360 degree rotor on both antennas for the ultimate performance.

Finding something you love is fantastic. I feel that way about film too. Have done since I was a youngster.

We ^ share the same love and background.

My parents bought me my second serious 35mm film camera when I was 12 and I put my old camera on a tripod looking out of my bedroom window and took a still image everyday for a year. I developed and printed every frame and I held all of the pictures in one hand and with my other hand I rapidly flipped through them to make a time-lapse video of the four seasons.

That year I got a complete darkroom for my birthday and the rest is history of my life passion. Telling stories through film.

That’s some birthday present! I thought I was doing well with a telescope!

Seriously though, I can’t imagine world without film.

I was a photographer and later on managing editor for my high school newspaper. When I was younger I never could afford a 35mm camera but I had a dual lens fixed focus camera and I obtained a kit for developing film. But my main passion was always electronics and I enjoyed building amplifiers and tuners.

P.S. The hoodie look above is because I was trying to warm up on a windy day after having just finished a long dive….although the islands are near the equator, the water is fairly cold and we didn’t have the luxury of dry suits back then.

Super 8mm, you must be a young one. I started filming with my father's 16mm Kodak movie camera.

I still have my Leica M3 with normal, wide and telephoto lenses and every year or so I take it out and take pictures.

Since when does ATSC 3.0 equate to films transcode to photography?

Every 2020 TV that supports ATSC 3.0 NextGen TV - Digital Trends 5/6/20

Quote:
LG OLED TVs

Three of LG’s OLED series support NextGen TV in 2020, with a total of six models from which to choose. The GX or Gallery Series (55-, 65-, and 77-inch sizes), WX or Wallpaper series (65- and 77-inch sizes), and 8K ZX (88-inch size) are in LG’s top-tier and will support the feature, while the CX and BX models do not.

At $2500, the 55-inch GX OLED is the least expensive LG option for accessing ATSC 3.0 broadcasts.

Samsung QLED TVs

Only Samsungs 8K QLED TVs will support ATSC 3.0 NextGen TV. The included series are the Q800T (65-, 75-, and 82-inch sizes), the Q900TS (65-, 75, and 85-inch sizes), and the Q950TS (85-inch size), for a total of seven options.

At $3500, the 65-inch Q800T is the least expensive Samsung option for ATSC 3.0 compatibility.

Sony TVs

The only confirmed Sony TV model that will include an ATSC 3.0 tuner is the X900H. This may seem interesting since, presumably, the X900H is a step-down model from the more expensive X950H, but this is the direction Sony has chosen to take this year. The X900H will be available in four screen sizes (55-, 65-, 75-, and 85-inch variants) ranging in price from $1200 to $3500.

At $1200, the 55-inch X900H is the least expensive TV on our radar that supports ATSC 3.0 NextGen TV and at $3500, the 85-inch X900H is the most affordable large-screen model to incorporate the new tuner technology.

More to come?

At this time, we’ve not received formal announcements from TCL, Philips, Hisense, or other TV manufacturers as to whether any of their models will include ATSC 3.0 tuners for access to NextGen TV. That could change, however, as many new models have not been formally launched or shipped.

Synamedia Teams with Thomson Broadcast and Triveni Digital for an ATSC 3.0 Channel-in-the-Cloud - StreamingMedia 5/7/20

Quote:
London(07 May 2020)

Synamedia, the world’s largest independent video software provider, announced today an ATSC 3.0-ready cloud solution for the U.S. and international markets in partnership with Thomson Broadcast and Triveni Digital.

In a crucial step for carrying the next-generation broadcast standard forward, the companies have validated configurations for an ATSC 3.0 channel in the cloud, in a joint effort to meet the needs of station operators who are looking for a fast, cost-effective way to trial and deploy ATSC 3.0 with minimal disruption to their existing stations before investing in on-premise equipment. In addition to simplified trial deployment, the cloud-based configuration allows providers to leverage cloud operations for disaster recovery which can eventually be used in conjunction with their permanent solutions, and to seamlessly switch between on-premise and cloud equipment.

ATSC 3.0: Three Ways to Improve Reception - TVTechnology 4/30/20

Quote:
ATSC 3.0 offers at least three ways to make reception easier that aren’t available or are difficult to implement in 1.0. One involves providing a stronger signal to the viewer. The others make the signal more robust so less signal strength is required.

US broadcasters plow ahead with 'NextGen TV'

The deployment of ATSC 3.0 by some major broadcasters was the key theme of a panel session assembled for this week's NAB Digital Express, an online event that has taken the place of the canceled NAB Show that was set to happen last month in Las Vegas.

Rick Ducey, Managing Director, BIA Advisory Services, speaks to broadcast business models being considered for ATSC 3.0 and the kinds of expectations agencies and marketers should have for NextGen TV and local TV advertising in terms of services, data and other opportunities will be available to them, and when.

Sam Matheny, Chief Technology Officer of the NAB, discusses the status of the roll-out of ATSC 3.0 and how stations are deploying this new broadcast standard.
