As I said before, it isn't an idle threat. I did just that with Roman Polanski when Warners didn't take me seriously that the FRANTIC BD needed to be corrected, and I succeeded in getting a new version made. If a deep catalog title can be repressed to satisfy a director who hasn't worked for that studio in years, and might never again, then I think Sony will definitely want to satisfy two of their most important, highest-grossing directors.
Hmmm... quite impressive mate.

Heh... well, I wouldn't personally state it QUITE so smugly, but... I tend to agree. With my Plasma I am not really noticing things quite as egregiously as most others...

What's the source of these Vudu screenshots for Whiplash? The movie doesn't look nearly that bad through the Vudu app on my LG TV. Of course the Blu-ray looks much better, but based on a quick glance at this scene in my Vudu app, it had much more clarity and detail than what those screenshots show. I'm thinking that whoever took those screenshots had a poor connection or didn't let the stream buffer long enough.

I'm going to contact the representatives for the DP this afternoon and try to get him involved. Perhaps he decided to adjust the film for the BD, and this is his preferred version. Again, anything is conceivable. however when he weighs in, there will be no more questions.
Hmmm, the last thing you said seems to be more likely to me. And, that is an excellent idea contacting someone in the DP's dept. According to what pretty much almost ALL of you are saying, the BD (after the fact) was made darker. That is what I have been suspecting all along, that it possibly was just an artistic choice (for better or worser... Uh, I said 'worser' on purpose )

Sorry, but I have 150 Blurays and I don't have a black crush problem with not a single one!
So, I'm afraid your argument doesn't stand!

I've taken tons of caps and didn't notice this issue. At some point, for Raiders of the Lost Ark, I compared my caps to the one available on caps-a-holic and found out they were extremely close minus very small difference which seemed related to compression.

Here is a couple of reviews I typed and the caps that go with them :

http://retro-hd.com/tests/blu-ray-im...940-shoah.html

They should all be fine ratio-wise.

And...

You watch on what?

I gave a 42" Samsung plasma to a coworker that bought a 39" Element LCD.

Called me an hour after I dropped it off to tell me they decided to connect the XBox One to it...cause they could actually see what they were playing...

(Yes I know. Plasma vs a complete crap LCD isn't exactly fair...

But...plasma did die because LCD is so much better........)

Not sure if sarcastic or not. If not, Plasma certainly didn't die because LCD is so much better. Actually, this is not at all the reason, although since its democratisation, LCD gives much better picture that it did a couple years ago.

But Plasma died because the production costs prevented the technology to be suitable for smaller screen democratisation. That's why there are no Plasma screen at 32" or 36" (I believe it starts at 42"). And obviously, LCD screens (and LED afterwards) took the opportunity of this to be also extended to computer screens, when Plasma couldn't.

So while Plasma was able to give you deeper blacks, less lag and no clouding, it was un-objectively branded by some as of lesser quality because older.
Currently, the only technology fully rivalising Quality-wise with Plasma screens is OLED, but that's expensive as hell.

Oh dear. No. Plasma is better than LCD - just because the masses bought cheap LCD's doesnt make them better.

I dont see a problem with Whiplash, in fact I would say the VUDU shots look overly brightened. But Fury and My Bbest Friend's Wedding definitely dont look to have their colour space set correctly.

In good news though, the Foxcatcher screenies look fine.

Caps up between the Blu and DvD.

The DVD shows more info in shadow details but has an overall washed out look.

Thanks! Proof that even the freaking DVDs of these titles do not have the black crush.

UV, Netflix, DVD, clips used in featurettes - all look normal. Only the BDs themselves have it, it is clearly an error.

Yup, the DVD caps look like the caps taken from the deleted scenes and featurettes. Someone tampered with the main presentation.
