That they have. There is no confirmation of the aspect ratio (I didn't see Skyfall because I didn't want to see an open-matte 1.90:1 version) but as the majority of the film is anamorphic 35mm I'm confident it will be 2.40:1.

The IMAX website only lists a handful of IMAX screens with laser projection and the Minnesota location is not listed so it must be 15/70. My ideal pick would be 4K digital but as every theater here (AMC, Regal, etc) that has 4K projectors routinely leaves the 3D splitter in the way and I've written letters to corporate HQ and argued with managers to no avail, I don't go there anymore. At least with IMAX I get a large, bright image and very good sound.

Thanks. LTROI remains one of my favourite horrors of all time. (Shame about the remake)

Yeah, I envy you guys at Halloween. It's a little more low-key here. We have the trick or treaters but only for an hour or so, early evening. I have celebrated though. The Shining and a pizza!

So you think it's 15/70 because it's not laser? You do know that IMAX have snuck 2K digital projectors into most of their auditoria, right? Unfortunately the IMAX name is not a guarantee of getting the best quality, even when 15/70 wasn't on its last legs.

[edit] There's only been one new 15/70 release of any kind (in the west, at least) in almost the last 2 years (Interstellar) and if Star Wars can only coax 20-odd prints out of them - having actually been shot partially on IMAX 65mm - then a top-to-bottom DMR like Spectre has got no chance.

Crap. I have never seen a digital projection of any movie at my IMAX theatre. Ugh. Now you have me worried.

APPLE VALLEY, Minn. — The Minnesota Zoo's IMAX theater is getting a $1.2 million upgrade.

The Apple Valley zoo's Great Clips IMAX Theatre recently added an IMAX Digital Projection System and will be adding a cloud-based ticketing system. The theater also is installing 482 rocker seats.

The theater will be closed for the installation Wednesday through Sunday.

Movie-goers can attend the first showing of director Christopher Nolan's new movie, "Interstellar," in IMAX 70-millimeter on Nov. 4.

The movie stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain in a story about space explorers using a wormhole to create a shortcut across the universe.
I am guessing this is the dual 2K 1.90:1 setup. Is this even worth going to anymore? Won't that look terrible on such a large screen? Will it even be OAR anymore?

I had the same thing to say to dvdmike when he realised that not everything he's seen at the BFI IMAX was 15/70: if you've seen an 'IMAX' branded presentation there since they had the digital 'upgrade' (and it wasn't Interstellar ), then you would've seen a 2K digital set-up anyway, i.e. if you came away satisfied then you should still enjoy Spectre there.

Don't worry about the OAR though, IMAX chose 1.90 for their embiggened IMAX digital features simply because it's the native sensor res of standard digital cinema projectors anyway (being either 2048x1080 or 4096x2160). The only unique thing they do with their masters is use the whole amount of resolution that's available (if applicable), unlike regular 'scope 2.40 or flat 1.85 DCPs, and then they use two projectors to overlap one another to offset things like visible pixel structure.

But seeing as Spectre is 2.40 throughout (they did use some flat formats for capturing action scenes and VFX plates but only for those purposes, it wasn't done to embiggen the screen) I should think that the IMAX 2K version will still be in the right ratio. They produce different DMR'd masters for the digital and the laser presentations too, presumably the latter will be 4K in Spectre's case.

I have been reliably informed that dvdmike did not think everything he was seeing at the BFI was 15/70

Thanks for the info. I only ever saw films that had genuine IMAX sequences like TDK, TDK:R, Ghost Protocol, etc. The only movie I saw after the upgrade was Interstellar and it was obviously not digital. The only total DMR'd movies I have seen were Avatar, Tron Legacy, and Elysium, but those were on film.

I am more excited for SPECTRE than The Force Awakens. That's how big a 007 fan I am. Has anyone seen a 2K LieMAX movie on a 15/70 screen? I am debating cancelling my reserved tickets.

I've seen several 2K 'non IMAX' presentations on the BFI's 26x20m screen, all of them in 'scope so it was like watching widescreen on a 4:3 TV - although it helped that this was one big-ass 4:3 TV!!!

Obviously I wasn't expecting any IMAX-style clarity so they looked fine for what they were, but I've never seen an IMAX digital DMR presentation on that screen or any other, so maybe I'm kvetching for nothing. What did you think of Guardians when you saw it there in 3D, mike?

So there's no 4K/Atmos installations to go to instead?

Nope. There is a 2K Atmos theater nearby. Sometimes it is good, other times not.

It is still a giant screen, but it is annoying to only see half of it in use. There is on near me that uses digital on the full height IMAX screen.

Seeing the IMAX release of Wizard of Oz was interesting since it was side cropped on the 16:9 projection, then top/bottom black space due to the 4:3 screen.

singh, just to confirm it I emailed IMAX and they replied with this:
