That they have. There is no confirmation of the aspect ratio (I didn't see Skyfall because I didn't want to see an open-matte 1.90:1 version) but as the majority of the film is anamorphic 35mm I'm confident it will be 2.40:1.
The IMAX website only lists a handful of IMAX screens with laser projection and the Minnesota location is not listed so it must be 15/70. My ideal pick would be 4K digital but as every theater here (AMC, Regal, etc) that has 4K projectors routinely leaves the 3D splitter in the way and I've written letters to corporate HQ and argued with managers to no avail, I don't go there anymore. At least with IMAX I get a large, bright image and very good sound. Last edited by singhcr; 11-01-2015 at 12:20 AM. |

Yeah, I envy you guys at Halloween. It's a little more low-key here. We have the trick or treaters but only for an hour or so, early evening. I have celebrated though. The Shining and a pizza! ![]() ![]() |

[edit] There's only been one new 15/70 release of any kind (in the west, at least) in almost the last 2 years (Interstellar) and if Star Wars can only coax 20-odd prints out of them - having actually been shot partially on IMAX 65mm - then a top-to-bottom DMR like Spectre has got no chance. I had the same thing to say to dvdmike when he realised that not everything he's seen at the BFI IMAX was 15/70: if you've seen an 'IMAX' branded presentation there since they had the digital 'upgrade' (and it wasn't Interstellar
![]() Don't worry about the OAR though, IMAX chose 1.90 for their embiggened IMAX digital features simply because it's the native sensor res of standard digital cinema projectors anyway (being either 2048x1080 or 4096x2160). The only unique thing they do with their masters is use the whole amount of resolution that's available (if applicable), unlike regular 'scope 2.40 or flat 1.85 DCPs, and then they use two projectors to overlap one another to offset things like visible pixel structure. But seeing as Spectre is 2.40 throughout (they did use some flat formats for capturing action scenes and VFX plates but only for those purposes, it wasn't done to embiggen the screen) I should think that the IMAX 2K version will still be in the right ratio. They produce different DMR'd masters for the digital and the laser presentations too, presumably the latter will be 4K in Spectre's case. |

![]() I am more excited for SPECTRE than The Force Awakens. That's how big a 007 fan I am. Has anyone seen a 2K LieMAX movie on a 15/70 screen? I am debating cancelling my reserved tickets. |

I've seen several 2K 'non IMAX' presentations on the BFI's 26x20m screen, all of them in 'scope so it was like watching widescreen on a 4:3 TV - although it helped that this was one big-ass 4:3 TV!!!
Obviously I wasn't expecting any IMAX-style clarity so they looked fine for what they were, but I've never seen an IMAX digital DMR presentation on that screen or any other, so maybe I'm kvetching for nothing. What did you think of Guardians when you saw it there in 3D, mike? |

Seeing the IMAX release of Wizard of Oz was interesting since it was side cropped on the 16:9 projection, then top/bottom black space due to the 4:3 screen. |
