Semantics; something’s there. If not Botox, something else...plasticy

At least tell me he is as legendary as he seems to be in the movies and interviews.

Huck, are you able to debunk the crazy stories about Tom asking people not to look at him aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt or whatever? I don't buy it at all, but we've got a few negative nellies around these parts.

In fact, on his last full day on the carrier, Tom stayed on the flight deck and personally thanked each and every person involved in the sequences. It took quite some time, but he shook hands with everyone.

I have no idea how these ridiculous stories get started.

I didn't watch the trailer because trailers are nothing but spoilers but, some people age faster in their features than others. Ed Harris always looked older than he actually was, and has never had a full, thick mane of hair. His hair was always thin and partially bald when he was much younger. It may be hereditary, and in his genes.

Sure, the original was cheesy but the central relationships were actually well acted and those dynamics - Mav, Goose Ice Man, and to some extent Kelly McGillis - are what really kept the film alive in our hearts for decades.
So, catch Only the Brave yet? I'll tell ya right now, and I don't care who looks at this with a stink eye. Only the Brave is a better film than Top Gun which is at best a gloriously 80's aerial combat film with cool visuals, likable cast, poppin soundtrack, undercooked drama and overcooked machismo and zero plot. May be cheesy?? it's a friggin gigantic wheel. It is hilarious that you hold Top Gun to THAT level of excellence, while dogging a filmmaker who is clearly talented regardless of what script he worked with and only on his 4th film. Know how many turkeys Tony Scott has made??

Top Gun is a classic, but not because it's the pinnacle of cinema and storytelling excellence... and I question your judgment of directorial prowess.

Looking forward to Top Gun Maverick and i believe Joseph Kosinski will deliver. This is only his fourth movie on his short tenure directing. So far, he has done pretty well according to imdb ratings. I highly doubt Cruise would have had a part in who was to direct Top Gun Maverick so i am pretty sure he feels very comfortable wit this movie in his hands.

TRON: Legacy 7.4 - 2010
Oblivion 7.3 - 2013
Only The Brave - 7.8 - 2017

You also have to remember, the audience today is a farcry from an audience of the 80's when the original Top Gun was released.Going to the complex today just does not have the same vibe as it did back than and i am sure most people from that period of going to the movies will agree. The action star is long gone but Cruise still delivers the goods thanks to his dedication to the roles he plays. I wish he would team up with James Cameron for something, two people that strive for perfection in what they do,that would be some movie i bet.

I don't mind Kosinski. I don't even mind Michael Bay for this. Because I only wanted Tony Scott to direct, that's no longer possible so I'm just trying to be optimistic and it looks great so far.

The trailer hardly gave away any of the plot. A true teaser.

Also, what happened to Huck's comments? They disappeared?

He's been looking crazy old for some time now. I honestly felt he was dying of cancer or something when I saw him a few years back in Run All Night.

Yeah I haven't seen the film yet, of course. But if this trailer having given away anything at all significant I would be leaving the theater shocked. Totally shocked.

I hope there's more excitement and action in this sequel, as the first one was very slow paced and not exciting IMO. I tried getting through it on blu ray 3D again, but kept losing interest, even as a fan of Tom Cruise in the Mission Impossible films.

Then Kosinski has something in common with Tony Scott, considering Scott's work prior to Top Gun.

At age 68, Tony Scott may have suffered for awhile from severe depression to have ended his life as he did not long ago.
[Show spoiler]"On 19 August 2012, at approximately 12:30 pm. PDT, Scott died by suicide after jumping off the Vincent Thomas Bridge in the San Pedro port district of Los Angeles."https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Scott

Hitting the water is like hitting concrete if not diving feet first or hands first to cut into the water instead of slamming into it. Just remember how it hurts to jump off a diving board and hitting the water flat. It's like a solid object for a split second.

But he was planning to make a sequel to Top Gun, but lost track of his life. To find positive hope in something every day is the key to eventually overcoming depression I believe. Hope being the opposite of grief and self pity. They did suggest he was taking medication that prompted him to do it, so I'm not certain why he did that in the first place.

Enemy of the State with Will Smith was my favorite Tony Scott film of the ones he made.

On topic, Ridley Scott his brother, doesn't have any new films lined up past 2017 at age 81. An impressive career to keep going like that.

The director of Tron Legacy is in charge of this one. Nice to see Ed Harris in the cast.

You’re overstating my appreciation of Top Gun, and missing my point - which was that Oblivion stank, especially in the drama department, and therefore I’m concerned that TGM will fall short of its excellent trailer, because the characters and their dynamics are a major part of why we still love Top Gun.

That said, several people have now told me to check out Only The Brave and reviews seem to suggest Kosinski can handle drama just fine... which is reassuring.
