No, not revenue from tickets sold. Number of tickets sold. Bums on seats in other words.

I would really love it if the United States would do this for box office.

I never liked the whole "we will see how many premium screens Top Gun still has this weekend so it can make more money."

Not as sexy as 'this movie openend to 900 gazillion dollars !!'?

It's Hollywood, Everything is bigger and bolder. Just a guess though. Maybe they can do both.

In filmmaking there's a fine line between too little and too much. This film straddled that line perfectly.

The execution of this film is absolutely sublime. Supreme pacing. I can't remember the last time I watched a movie and didnt check the time a single time before this one. The blocking and editing of the film's stunts was so well done. There was no problem at all following all the action. You knew where all the planes were and every action they made was readily understandable and easy to follow.

Of course it wont win best picture, because you know movies are serious art and we cant have fluff like Top Gun winning. But everyone knows which film they had the best time with this year.

5/5
It's the same as what made the original TG a smash, a formula popcorn flick absolutely crafted to the letter.

That being said, this flick was so predictably 80s, a couple more jokes could've made this Hot Shots Trois.

Worldwide Maverick is a $1,480,000,000 flick, I think.

I thought we did track this stat, but it wasn't commonly presented?

Adjusting for inflation is a pain, as I'm not sure it's possible to be accurate, but BO take allows us to judge how successful/profitable a film was at a glance, while tickets sold does not.

But I'd like to see both used equally. Though tickets sold is no guarantee of # butts in seats.

Not bad, another $2.2 million this last weekend; $709.1 million total.

Avatar: The Way of Water is gong to need a lot of help; 3D IMAX and all...good luck.

The "resurgence" of the moviegoing experience has already happened with Maverick this year and with the Speedo-Man last year.

@ the end of today (Tuesday, Sept. 20) Maverick should rank #16 (adjusted for inflation)

Ukraine Top Cruise / Paramount ... and all / How far can Maverick go?

Tom Cruise, Sandra Bullock Say Paramount Is Cheating Them Out of Millions

It's a tough business to be a Hollywood movie studio nowadays ...
It's even tougher to be a top movie star in Hollywood.
Moviegoers don't have those issues; they don't have to deal with millions.

Ukraine Top Gun: Maverick

@ the end of today Maverick will be worth $710 million domestic and $1.470 billion worldwide....more or less with change to spare.

And tomorrow? We're back with Avatar in theaters ... to see if it can be the first ever flick to make $3 billion worldwide @ the box office.

Ukraine Maverick is worth $1.480 billion worldwide

Screenshot_20220923-123124_Chrome.jpg

Projected for this weekend: $1.5-1.6 million.
By next Thursday: $712 million total.

For the month of October Maverick should rake an additional $3 million domestic.
That would bring the total to $715 million, if not more.
If it keeps playing till Christmas ... $720 million no sweat.

Avatar 2 is dead in the water.
