As long as people are paying money to watch it, there's no reason to dump it onto free streaming yet.

I watched it last Friday and I couldn't stop smiling. It starts with the Intro, same as Part One, just modern and the same Music and then when they played Danger Zone I felt like a little child again.
I had so much fun with the movie and the flight Scene were just wow. Thats how Action should look like

Christmas sounds about right. And the 4K Blu is definitely the way to go, short of a presentation @ an IMAX theater. And it seems that Maverick is out on the domestic front.
So the domestic box office number as mentioned previously couple days ago (Friday) by another member was the last number indeed.

Just finished watching the film. I love it. This is such a breath of fresh air from another film that I just finished watching: Thor: Love and Thunder. I wish Disney and Marvel would take note. Imagine them making an Iron Man film like this. Or even Captain Marvel. Everything about Top Gun: Maverick feels real. Real people, real drama, and most importantly, real STAKES. Everything matters. Training matters. Winning matters. Real shooting matters. This isn't some CGI fest that has plagued the Superhero genre.

I think Black Panther: Wakanda Forever may be Disney's best chance to make a film that matters. I am also curious how Avatar: Way of Water will turn out because that is the exact opposite of Top Gun. Everything is CGI to the max.

Just watched it this weekend for the first time.

Was really disappointed that its just a nostalgia fest without any creativity. Visuals are amazing.

But it is exactly the same movie as the first one, literally. Guy meets girl in beginning, , maverick gets sent to top gun after being reprimanded, they sing the exact same song (great balls of fire), He deals with Gooses death but its 35 years later, playing Football vs. volleyball on the beach, they do flight school games and everyone is taken down... They even seem to make Penny's house look just like Charlie's from the first one, at least on the outside.

The movie itself isnt bad, its just really exactly the same as the first. Wasnt expecting that.

The original 'Top Gun' (1986) was the first major boost to home theater. ...With five independant channels, including a discrete center channel and stereo L & R discrete channels, plus the bass redirected to the subwoofer (LFE) channel.

Top Gun was the main reason I got into a surround sound system by purchasing a surround sound receiver (Pioneer VSX-5000) in 1987, and then the year after in 1988 the first Dolby Pro Logic AV receiver from Pioneer also, the VSX-9300s.

The rest is history ... thirty-six years later (almost 37 ... in 2023).

* You are quite correct that in honor to Tony Scott 'Top Gun: Maverick' follows Tony's foot steps quasi to the letter.

When and if Top Gun 3 happens in a near future, we might see a different ball game.
It's up to the stars in Hollywood.

I curious about one thing. If they have a Top Gun 3, how long can they keep up with this rogue nation thing? At some point, they have to be fighting somebody right?

I don't know. I don't see how it passes censor. This isn't Transformers. This is a US pilot on a F14 beating the nuts out of 2 Russian Sukhoi Su-57s. China has their own fifth generation fighter aircraft in the J-20. They probably see this movie as sending the wrong message about air superiority.

Do they? Where is it stated that must be the case?

I finally got round to watching it, doing a double bill with the first. It's a solid 4 out of 5 movie and a great sequel, but because I watched the first film too, you could see every beat copied over to the new one. Val Kilmer's scene was very touching. The last half hour of action was fantastic and worth waiting for.
