I’m a bit biased against cutting anything from the bar scenes as the production design holds a special spot in my heart in that it was a posting exclusive insight as to what was in the works to come - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...e#post15774685

I’m actually hoping that like with the ‘Top Gun House’ from the original movie, now eventually having made local news - https://abc7.com/top-gun-house-ocean...20Tara%20Lazar, that the Hard Deck bar will be reconstructed (which it could easily be, as best to my knowledge, although deconstructed, it’s still in storage rather than outright discarded to a dump) either built up again on base at naval station north island or better yet, somewhere in the San Diego area to likewise serve as a testament this time to the sequel.

It's official: Tom Cruise (Top Gun Pete "Maverick" Mitchell) is bigger than Johnny Depp (Pirate Captain Jack Sparrow). Mission accomplished, period! Congrats to all for a job well done @ the movie magic.

Tom Cruise was visibly much older in the intro to the movie than he was in the movie. You could tell this has been done for some time.

Just watched Top Gun Maverick in 4K Laser IMAX. Good movie. I rewatched Top Gun (1986) in 3D last night and I do give the edge to the original. Maverick seemed to have more down beats and felt a bit more singular....train for mission, mission, end...I still liked it a lot but the first was just a bit better.

There was a surprising amount of humor, which I did like. Nothing stood out about the score, but it was always destined to stand in the shadow of the iconic original notes. The cinematography in IMAX when it was full screen was incredible. Edge of your seat gripping stuff. Just incredible. Tom Cruise is totally at the top of his game, he is probably the best in the business with large scale action.

My favorite part was when Maverick
[Show spoiler]came back to pilot the course in 2:15 to show it could be done.
The biggest gigantic gaping plot hole though:
[Show spoiler]if they could easily bomb the airstrip, why not the bunker?

Top Gun Maverick is honestly way better than it has any right to be, the production team really knocked it out of the park. I've always liked Kosinski, Tron: Legacy & Oblivion are AMAZING movies so I hope he keeps directing.

It was very nice to see Val Kilmer on screen again, I miss that guy.

Top Gun 7.5/10
Top Gun Maverick 7/10

The more I think about it, I may actually prefer Maverick better as I do really like the third act, but there are a lot more slow points with Connelly. I could easily see increasing my score on a second watch. After the opener I was convinced I was going to watch it in theater again. Halfway through I was certain it was a one-time theater show. After the third and and on reflection, I'm thinking about going back.

I thought they explained it.
[Show spoiler] it was basically the Death Star trench run. The laser guided missile had to go through the vent to destroy the bunker, something that tomahawk missiles can't accurately do.
. I could have been reading too much into that though.

Both movies are good but I feel that Maverick was better with characterization, including the initially annoying 'Hangman'

It is not a plot hole because they provided an explanation.
[Show spoiler]The airstrip was exposed but the bunker was located in a valley that was GPS shielded and so the missiles would not be have been able to lock-on with precision. It had to be precision manual bombing.

Sorry to ask that in this thread: are there news about the space movie that Cruise wanted to make with Doug Liman ?

A 3D home release would have been incredible. I would have double dipped no hesitation for the 4K and 3D disc.

: no SJW/woke lecture/agenda feast nonsense as it seems Sonic 2, Quiet Place 2 and this movie are major hits for Paramount and should give Paramount a big wake up call that audiences want pure entertainment which makes big bucks and while SJW/woke agenda pandering crap like Terminator 6 flops. Looks like things are having a right direction as entertainment is finally coming back and woke is slowly dying a poisoned death as woke has finally got the backlash it receives as the masses have waken up as they had enough SJW/woke crap and will die out eventually in the middle of the decade and entertainment is what matters to the masses.

This is one of those examples of pure entertainment this year and a sequel done right of honoring and respecting the first movie and it's beloved cinematic hero Maverick as studios should take notes from this movie, Blade Runner 2049 and Cobra Kai of treating cinematic heroes the right way instead of the opposite for agenda.
Great post and it’s so refreshing to read this. I have not seen this movie yet and honestly I was never a fan of the original. But damn…. I want to support this movie just because of how they did NOT screw it up. No pushing of "the message". No forcing anything. I love it.

Imagine if certain other studios were in charge of this film? Maverick would have had an early scene where he’s presented a model of a fighter jet and would have flipped it over his shoulder and been all pissed off. LOL.

That’s it, I have to see this now.

A modern classic and definitely worthy of a place at the best sequels table. Brilliant stuff.

Maverick is a rookie in the first film, in the sequel he's had over 30 years of experience. People would complain about the sequel being a rehash if it had the same message!

The first movie i think is a five out of five star classic in my books and this one is 4 and a half for me.

Don't you have MCU threads to complain about people voicing their negative criticism at MCU movies?

Who talks about movies like this anymore?! This isn't 2012

People condone good entertaining movies with well done action sequences that look real and don't look like computer games with bad CGI.
