But you were using Supes as an example, which involves numerous movies and tv shows, and nothing since SR has ever claimed to try and connect to the original films. Top Gun is obviously not that, it’s a direct sequel to the original.

Just saw it last night. Excellent film btw. I think the praise is a little fevered if you ask me, but I don’t really find any fault with it.

I wasn't interested in watching this initially but everyone I've spoken to who has seen it has praised it as great entertainment. One co-worker went so far as to say the film revitalized his passion for movies again. After that, I couldn't resist so I purchased an advance ticket yesterday for a showing today. This movie is a straightforward blockbuster flick, I mean, no political, woke or any "new millennium" speech about all the disney/netflix agenda for example. The action is real, feels real and the cgi used is to enhance the real thing. The actors are on real locations, no green screen bullshit or that new 3D "projector" sets like those used on disney that makes everything look so generic and fake. The musical cues on the scenes gives this movie personality, the action is top notch like anything we have seen before and the sound is amazing....

On top of all that a great script, amazing acting all around and no "inclusive random character" stealing the show.

And yeah.... Tom Cruise.

This movie is what cinema used to be... I hope hollywood takes notes about the boxoffice success and re-take this path on future projects.

This film joins Creed in long gestating sequels that I initially thought were terrible ideas, but turned out to be terrific films. Never would I have thought that Top Gun, of all things, would be poised to outgross an MCU sequel and a Batman film.

In the original script it was a mid-air collision, but the Navy said "Nope, can't let you do that". The producers then asked the Navy consultants what other kind of in-flight accident they could use & one of them came up with the flat-spin/canopy incident that's in the movie.
