No reason to rush the streaming release with the insane box office legs it's having. Might even be playing well into August.

Ghost Protocol for me as well. Seeing this scene in IMAX I thought I was gonna vomit.

Shame the Ghost Protocol IMAX footage still hasn't been released on home video.

With Bullet Train being the only IMAX movie slated for August I could definitely see it being brought back that month.

How dare you say that about my daddy!

Never underestimate the power of nostalgia.
Not even sure it's down to simple nostalgia for Top Gun as much as it is nostalgia for a movie that appeals to older cinemagoers in general, driven (flown?) by one of the last great movie stars and which is not based on a fookin comic book. No need to know about this and that going into it, I'd say that people don't even need to have seen the first film to get a great deal of enjoyment from this movie as it still had a very decent chunk of youngsters making up the demographics when it opened (like 21% were 18-21).

If covid didn't happen and this opened as normal I don't think it'd be doing the business that it is right now. It's a fine film so wouldn't have flopped, and the IMAX tax would've added a few simoleons in any case, but modern Tom Crooze movies simply don't go over this big outside of Mission Impossible, and even then those grosses have been holding steady since Ghost Protocol rather than any particular MI being a breakout hit. But the older demo have been waiting for something to tempt them out of their cinematic hibernation, something not even Mr Bond could manage fully, but Crooze and Kosinski have gone and done it.

On a completely different but still box-office-related note, this is another flick that will rake in a billion dollars without the aid of China. Huh.

Is it difficult or something to change films for an imax screen or is this just sheer laziness from the theaters part? The few around me in a 100 mile radius all are playing Jurassic Park, all times of the day, all days of the week.

Too bad, i don't think i have any screen-x theaters within 100+ miles of me. I think Boston or NYC is the closet place.
