"Paramount/Skydance’s hypersonic Top Gun: Maverick passed the $1.1B global threshold, grossing a further $37M in 65 markets — another outstanding 16% drop from last weekend internationally. The overseas total through Sunday is $544.5M." - DEADLINE

* The Minions flick: $202 million worldwide this weekend, excluding July the 4th.
Top Gun still keeps cruising @ high speed, excluding Independence day.

** The total money Maverick can make overall depends of its stay @ the theaters ... the length of time. End of July fo shure. Then they'll reassess the cash register potential; I'd say till after Labor Day (Sept. 8), miniomum. Then they'll reassess again the cash register.
It will surpass Titanic domestically, I'm pretty shure.

*** It almost feels like we're back to normal (before the Corona), but that's just an illusion.
They're are other factors that indicate we're far from the normality all around.

We love movies, it matters ... good movies. ...Nope?

So... we should all keep going to the movies
It's a choice that we can only make for ourselves, and nobody else.

And you're right; 2022 is far from being normal. The speedo guy and Maverick are tempting a speed race; we can only watch in total awe and disbelief while the rest of the world is swimming in an ocean thick and oily black with toxic fumes and ... you know the rest of that song with local and abroad musicians and singers ...

Just passed $1.1 Billion WW

Maybe now people will understand why Paramount held it from theaters for so long.

Probably not as good.

Or maybe Trump would have promoted the hell out of it while in office.

I think it's doing really well one because it's a wonderfully made film from a technical perspective. And two, the public have been craving to get back to normalcy post pandemic. And movie going seems to be an old thing that is easiest to feel normal.

This was almosf a perfect meal for the audience to get the pendulum swinging back to normalcy.

It's one of those movies that just clicks with audiences. Like Titanic.

Fortunately, he's done quite a few of those role too. Unfortunately, he doesn't seem to do them anymore for quite a while now (10+ years).

Collateral, Eyes Wide Shut, Jerry Maguire.

Maybe it's just me, but his character in Collateral feels especially deep under the surface.

A shame Tom Cruise doesn't like to do villains, because his villain in Collateral was absolutely amazing.

As much as I would like to see it happen, I really doubt it will come anywhere's near $2B.

3D is falling out of favor in movie theaters. Just check your local listings for movies in 3D - how many shows daily. Maybe Avatar 2 will help it pick up again.

Pretty sure it was because Tom Cruise wouldn't let it go straight to streaming & insisted on it being a 'big screen event'.

& as Tom Cruise movies seem to be the only ones that consistently make any money for Paramount, they do whatever he says...

I personally love 3D.

But I do think it has fallen out of favor with general populace

First, TV manufs completely dropped 3D a long time ago AND enthusiast grade projector manufacturers even started to drop 3D the past couple of years.

Second, I have a theater near me that does standard, 3D, and IMAX. I monitored the opening ticket sales for minions as it had ample showings for all three, and animated movies are usually great for 3D. In terms of what people bought, most bought standard, a good deal bought IMAX, but 3D tanked with most theater showings empty.

I think for 3D to get back in the limelight will need a glasses free option, but if done on the home front I'd personally want the ability to switch to a glasses option as you know the former will be inferior to the latter.

The 2nd act really needed to move faster and you could of replaced john hamm with john cena and it wouldn't of made a difference , hangman actor would make a great gambit.

And they need to bring back 3D HDTVs, in 4K HDR.
