Yep. No Way Home had a much bigger opening frame but the reason why it’s clocked almost $2 billion dollars is because it did what Maverick is doing: people keep turning up week after week. Hell, remove the staggering opening weekend and NWH still grossed $540M domestic AFTER that which is almost as much as Maverick’s total domestic gross thus far. They’re both legit box office phenoms, it doesn’t need to turn into a pissing contest.

In ten days (August 7) Maverick will rank #7 surpassing Titanic on the domestic front.
This weekend should bring another 8-9 million, just few millions short of Jurassic World.

Maverick doesn't wear a spandex suit.

* It's very hot here, up to my neck (wood). ...Dangerously hot, wear shades.
Have a cool weekend, stay out of that sun. ...AC

Maverick could be wearing spandex underneath the uniform... we would never know!

In other related news, it has just passed SHREK 3 as Paramount's biggest hit in France!!

It's important to pay attention to the Total Gross % Domestic. That's where the studios make their highest revenue.

If a movie does a billion dollars in China, the studio get $250 million. That same billion is worth between $500 and $600 million in NA.

ATM, the automatic cash transfer (teller) machine?
Lots of cash transfer with Maverick, both domestic (50-60%) and worldwide (25-30%).

With respect this penny counting is getting ridiculous. Does it matter at this point? Who cares outside of studio execs what else this makes? It was a great film, a very surprising movie. Hats off to Cruise and Kosinski.

I'm gonna celebrate the movie, not the box office take. I'm glad it has done well financially but damn give it a rest now. Also making a kajillion dollars runs the risk the studio milk it into the ground. A part of me would prefer a great film that doesn't do well.

There probably should be an ongoing generic box office thread, rather than a transient weekly one, so that people can discuss the business half of the show business equation and leave these threads more for the show side.

Or try to, at least, as often one tips into the other.

This movie is the only non-scifi, non-fantasy, non-superhero, non-animated movie that has reached a top 20 only consisting of the fantasy, sci-fi, animation or superhero genre in times of a pandemic... sort of.

It's extraordinary and should be talked about.

Titanic is a period piece. One could further define TGM as being set in the present day.

I bet Paramount have been a lot more relaxed about the excessive cost of the next 2 MI movies after this one struck gold and then some.
