Disney Gigantic (Disney, 2020)

C A N C E L L E D

Nathan Greno (on the right)

Disney announced the follow-ups for 'Frozen' and 'Big Hero 6'. Zootopia (2016), Giants (2016), Moana (2018) and Untitled Project (2018).

After Zootopia comes Giants. The next non-sequel computer animated feature on the list. According to Disney it will show us how big Nathan Greno (co-director Tangled, writer Meet the Robinsons and Brother Bear) his influence on 'Tangled' actually was. He's directing this fresh take on a magical fairy tale.

Giants will be released in the winter of 2016.

Another strenuously generic title...

In time we will know what the actual title will be. If a good title like "The Bear and the Bow" (at least, imo) changes in "Brave", maybe "Giants" will become a title with more than two words.

I can't wait for reissues of Lilo & Stitch as Wacky Alien, The Aristocats as Cats and The Jungle Book as The Jungle.

I'm guessing it's based more on a current book, but with a more marketable title. What that is, we'll find out at one of the two big expensive summer conventions every ELSE goes to.

I just cant think of a Giant in a fairytale that isnt Jack and the Beanstalk and that doesnt sound too appealing (though I can imagine it working if it gets the Disney spin put on it properly).

Only other story I know of with Giants is BFG...which tbh I'd quite like to see (well, I'd like to see Disney to any Roald Dahl movie.)

Was more actually picturing something more along the lines of Julia Donaldson's "The Giants and the Joneses", which I'd heard was optioned for a film at one point during its first big appearance, and then nothing.

(Although, like Princess & the Frog aka The Frog Princess, it may be a current book that was optioned, and then mutated 90% out of its original recognizable plotline, until they were legally obligated to give it an original title as well...)

Yeslek, it seems the feeling you had was right. As this article says it actually is based on the story of Jack and the Beanstalk.

I'm surprised they are doing this so close to Jack the Giant Slayer.

well I guess someone needs to correct that mistake (really disliked that movie)

If Disney put the GOOD spin on the tale, I can see it working well...but if we get the BAD=try-to-hard-and-miss-the-mark spin, its just going to be another disastrous let down

One of the differences is that it’s going to be set in Spain during the Age of Exploration, and according to the announcement, it “follows adventure-seeker Jack as he discovers a world of giants hidden within the clouds. He hatches a grand plan with Inma, a 60-foot-tall, 11-year-old girl, and agrees to help her find her way home. But he doesn’t account for her super-sized personality—and who knew giants were so down to earth?” The two of them will take on storm giants that live in a city in the clouds.

The film will feature new songs from the Oscar-winning Frozen duo of Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, including one that was sung live at D23.

Indeed. The last few years every single project changed by name at least twice. Same for Pixar.

Anyhow ... The logo :

The logo is great, isn't it? I love the placement of the beanstalk in the letter 'A'.

Ooooooh! I like the sound of this. You can't say they aren't trying something new with it. Then, I love Disney and they have been on a roll recently so I hope this will fit right into their new renneaisance, one word title or no.

I agree, it looks brilliant. I'm glad they'll be doing another classic fairy tale
