Great news! Parts 1 and 2 are the best.
The thing that made part 3 so bad was the horrible acting of Coppola's daughter. Every time she was in a scene, it stunk up the movie!

Well... this seals the deal for me. Paramount is officially my favorite studio of this year, even despite their wacky mishaps.

Well done, Paramount... You are forgiven.

Transformers, Iron Man, Sweeney Todd and Godfather trilogy take top spot. Godfather trilogy was the proper apology for much of the wrong doings, if you ask me!

Warner is probably number two with Dark City, L.A. Confidential, Beetleguise, Shawshank Redemption (might have been number one if they didn't have so many issues with getting releases right -- soft, smeary, non lossless, stupid cases on their new special editions, etc.)

I am so there day 1!

Now....all we need from Paramount is the Indiana Jones Trilogy. Come on Paramount! It's not going to happen but we can always pray.

The best part about this is that the restoration is being done by Robert Harris, which means that the films' natural GRAIN structure will be preserved. I hope there won't be many complaints about this when the BDs come out.

That means it's preserved on the master he handed in. What happens to that master between the edit bay and the compressionist's booth is still up in the air

Is this the same master they have been showing recently on HD satellite?

Very frightening. Especially give Paramount's track record on DNR.

I'm now able to speak a bit on the subject of The Godfather(s).

All restoration work was performed at 4k and 6k.

The data path through the entire system of WB's MPI facility never fell below 4k.

The HD master was created from the fully restored 4k data files.

The direction given from day one by both Mr. Coppola as well as Mr. Willis was that grain structure remain inviolable.

We did not tamper with or change the grain structure in any way, with the exception of bringing dupes into line with the look of the originals. This is transparent to the restoration.

Paramount Pictures, from post-production to the technical arena of home video, has been totally on board and exceptionally cooperative to this end. They have worked extremely hard with us toward the creation of what we all hope will be a perfect product.

The final result should be one of the most dynamic presentations of film yet seen in the video realm.

It has been our unified goal, especially in terms of overall resolution, grain structure and black levels which are, as designed, extremely deep, that the Blu-ray release be as close as humanly and technologically possible, to a virtual reproduction of the cinema experience.

The high definition master has been approved by everyone involved, and the resultant Blu-ray discs may well be the new gold standard by which home theater viewing systems will be judged, especially in the reproduction of Mr. Willis' shadows and blacks.

Hope this is helpful.

Mr. Harris:

Thank you SO much for your hard work on restoring this masterpiece, and I am thrilled that you are finally able to speak about your participation in this project. I have a couple of questions, if you don't mind:

1. What effort has been made to preserve the color-timing of the originals (some photos on the internet show that at least the third film has an odd color timing on the new PAL DVD release). Was the timing approved by the director/DP?

2. Having seen the finished work... what can we all expect from the BD release? Scanning at 4k/6k and maintaining a 4k production pipeline is fantastic news, but, as we've heard, the original elements weren't in the best shape prior to the restoration. How satisfied are you (and do you believe fans will be) of the finished product?

Thanks again for your contributions, and I hope this will be another outstanding success for you.
