The good thing is that no matter what format/device, etc. the end users cheerlead for, HDR awareness/value is gaining traction day – http://producedbyconference.com/la20...opportunities/

by day… https://www.eventbrite.com/e/enhance...ts-33579579426

I think we’ve made respectable progress since April 2012, unbeknownst to probably anyone on hobbyist forums, when the original proposal as to having TV images of higher brightness and deeper black levels was first introduced to the respective working party at the ITU and skepticism was expressed by working party members resulting in the committee not accepting the proposal, in part because it was too new, and also in part because there was not an appreciation that increased dynamic range would have value in a new television system. Then
several months later after evidence from a subjective study was submitted….working party members’ minds changed and HDR was accepted as a worthwhile thing to pursue…..and standardization work began with time in various organizations.

On the user side, I think everything will eventually work out o.k. at the end of the day.

Interesting. Samsung is selling an ATSC 3.0 converter in South Korea: http://www.samsung.com/sec/tv-access...-0813-11000279

Apparently LG are doing the same.

Would be great to see this coming to North America soon.

Question Does the un60js7000 from December 2015 support HDR10?

In December 2015, we bought a un60js7000 from Samsung to replace a broken TV. I know the HDR10 standard didn't exist until ~August 2015. Does this model properly? I was contemplating getting an UHD-BD player, and having a proper TV to play it on would sway me towards getting one sooner rather than later.

It will decode and display it to the best of this ability. I think you'd be satisfied but newer TVs do it better. And next year's TVs will be better than this year's TVs.

Default Yet another multi-HDR SoC

MediaTek MT5597: Another multi-HDR SoC (System on a Chip) for Ultra HD TV, compliant off-the-shelf with HDR10 / Dolby Vision / BBC HLG HDR

VP9-PQ / VP9-HLG YouTube HDR app can be added using the integrated 10-bit VP9 decoding.

"Support for single and dual layer mainstream HDR specs including Dolby Vision HDR, HDR10, and BBC HLG, which allows users to enjoy HDR content from any video source (OTT and physical media).

in regards to the hush-hush working project for a yet to be announced Disney movie (fantasy animation planned with a little Asian tone mixed in), said project is progressing nicely and picking up speed now that a writer (to be clear, not a writer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 though) has been freed up to devote more of her time to this new venture over at Walt Disney Animation Studios. As a side note, we need more women screenwriters on this list….

P-Man,

I was confused by seeing Melissa Mathison's name on this list as I remember her passing away, I had to Google to see it was Nov. 2015.
I was quite saddened at the time due to her career highlight's, and being Harrison's ex.

Yeah, not much press afforded to female screenwriters.

P.S. For longtime Tour de France followers that ^ guy is not Marco Pantani, in case you're wondering.

Since Samsung said that their 2016 TVs will be getting a firmware update for HDR10+ in the second half of the year and that Amazon will be offering HDR10+ content in the second half as well, I wonder if this means both of these things will be happening shortly after this event.

At the very least, we should at least be getting a demo of the format.

Also, looks like Samsung will be showcasing HDR10+ at an event that started today, as well: http://www.businesswire.com/news/hom...IZEN-3.0-SMART

not to forget, for image capturers, HLG in camera firmware (PXW-Z150 V2.0 and PXW-FS5 V4.0) coming next month to a couple camcorders…. http://www.visuals.co.uk/visualsblog...-hdr-firmware/

Since, for the record, I recently recounted some PQ related inside history – https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...t#post13714946

Now, a little history on the development and acceptance of HLG –
Originally the BBC and NHK had different preferences about such things as where the blending point between the gamma and log should be, however, by collaborating together , they were able to jointly come up with something that was superior to either original (namely, the BBC ‘Gamma plus Log’ proposal and the NHK ‘Shifted Gamma’ proposal) by each. Ergo, the Hybrid-Log Gamma (HLG) standard came about.

Note to our OP, bruceames…”Panelists noted that physical media isn’t going away any time soon”.

Also, with regards to the “Panelists described the challenges of handling thousands of VFX shots from multiple cameras with differing resolutions, color spaces and formats” <- there not being the time nor occasion to go into more detail as to the enabling technology of ACES, of which perhaps I can offer more insights later on here.
