The contrast is very harsh at times but how blown out it'll look depends on how well the tone mapping handles it. Something I like about the Panasonic player HDR Optimiser is that on these Sony discs with their overcooked HDR it softens the extreme highlights, not often returning any actual highlight detail (on my TV) but it rolls off the brightness in a gentler way, and the grain in those brighter areas with it. Not that I don't loves teh grain, but the way that the brightness is pumped on these discs combined with the compression givin' it all she's got (Sony are awesome, but they're not miracle workers with some of these grain-fests on 66GB discs) can make the grain look quite blocky in those brighter spots. Again, how your TV maps will directly affect the appearance of this stuff so this isn't another sweeping Geoffy Proclamation™ that insists you must see what I see, nor am I throwing Sony under the bus. All our TVs handle this differently.
Holy shit. How does this movie look so good? I am cracking up at the picture quality during the opening. Wow, I can almost smell Denise Richard's vomit. Best 10 dollars I ever spent. Masterpiece.

It's the same identical disc as the original Blu-ray release, not remastered.

As said above it's the same disc. However, the UK disc has better PQ for the BD.
Why is this director not being approached to make a modern ultra-violent sci-movie?
From Paul's side, he grew disillusioned with Hollywood popcorn filmmaking (he was getting offered lousy scripts) and he went back to Europe to rediscover himself; Hollywood wouldn't let him make the films he actually wants to make; plus he was having an increasingly hard time getting bankable talent to commit to his films
From the studios' side, he's old, and they have moved on to an altogether different type of popcorn product than what Paul delivers

I've found the rule of thumb to usually be Vudu will have WB titles and Amazon has the Sony titles (with a few exceptions, of course).
I would like to know more: Regarding Moviesanywhere, which also hosts 'Troopers, does the UHD code redeem in 4K...and is the HD, 1080p stream an SDR version of the same master? I've managed to preview new masters from a few titles otherwise unavailable on blu-ray this way (ALIEN, Jaws, etc.).

I can tell you that the code redeems in UHD-- I actually got UHD immediately on Amazon (this was a couple years ago) but it just turned into UHD about a week ago on VUDU, which previously only had an HDX version.
I haven't checked the 1080p version, but I find that typically the Movies Anywhere App has the latest remaster in 1080p as well, but VUDU tends to use whatever older 1080p version they already had and doesn't upgrade it.
