At current rates I'll be paying about £35 for the ST steelie at Amazon.com. It's not cheap, but it's not what I'd consider to be ball-bustingly expensive either.

While I agree with the first part, I still fail to see where the €50+ for one movie are coming from, if we're talking majors and not, say, A24. This one in particular is really relatively cheap actually.

Having said that, "just import" is also funny when it's coming from US folk usually not importing themselves even if their lives depended on it.

Yep...my thoughts exactly. Brightness on the old 4K was over-the-top on my Sony Z9D and Z8H. Probably not as much of a problem on an 800 nit set but 1600+ nits in a light controlled room it's like "MY EYYYEESSS!" New 4K looks WAY better in DV. First act didn't show off the improved grading as much as the second half of the film (which was WAY overcooked previously). Not only that but the image just holds together better.

Same old Atmos track but still dug listening to it for the first time on my new setup. Lots of overhead action. I loved when
[Show spoiler]the body of a rando dead crew member hit the top of the escape pod after the Roger Young blew up. BONK! What an effect!

Have youse guys turned off the DV to see what the HDR10 looks like? I've yet to come across one of these Sony reissues that had a substantially dimmer grade at source than the previous version, if anything they've been slightly brighter on the new discs. The DV dims it down drastically but that's what Sony's DV implementation in their TVs does.

Anyone know if this disc is a double layer or triple decker?

Depends on the country I guess, but for me anything coming from outside the EU goes through customs, which means paperwork and extra import fees (which are quite pricey).

I always assumed, maybe wrongly so and don't ask me why, you also living in Germany and that our additional fees would be the same.

I also doubt the compression and grain management is "much better", as someone else put it. They might be better when AB-ing frames, but in motion it probably isn't substantial enough to be that noticeable.

Challenge accepted. (I’ve been whinging about the compression on Troopers’ UHD for years.)

Compression and grain resolvement look nicerer on the new Bram Stoker's Dracula 4K release! Hope Sony extend that courtesy to my favourite exterminators...

Took a peek yesterday. The overall image looks nice. Grain field is nice and overall played back in DV the image doesn't look as Hot and harsh as before. Comparable to Ghostbusters. Same image just more refined now.

Weird that they tinkered with the Atmos track (lower bitrate), instead of porting it over. Were there issues with it or something?

Bdinfo is weird in how it represents the audio bitrate, it seems to keep changing between including the 640 kb/s legacy track in the overall bitrate and not including it. If you add the two together then it's 6166 kb/s on the new one which is slightly higher than the old release.

I don't get it - why they needed to remove two commentaries from 4k (based on bd-info)

I'm in the U.S., and I have no qualms about importing. Just yesterday, I ordered the Gandhi German 4K, and prior to that, the German The Neverending Story 4K, as well as some Italian 4Kult titles. I actually love importing.
