NY are taking more tests per capita than China, or S. Korea according to Cuomo. They've done over 45K so far. Over 10K cases now,

Not sure if it's been mentioned already or not...

But my life savings has been depleted by 30% and counting daily...

Several weeks ago while this was still exploding in China I implored my advisor to move me into cash - he said not to panic, it would blow over etc. Stupidly I listened to the 'expert' instead of going with my gut. And of course I haven't heard squat from him since...

So I was particularly incensed (although not surprised) that a number of US senators ran out and dumped all their stocks after a classified briefing back in Jan of the pending shit storm.

As always the rich and power thrive in times like this.

Further, earlier in the week the WHO announced the fund that they setup had made over 90 million based on 110,000 donations. Which is great.

However there's roughly 3000 billionaires in the world. 90 million is what one of them makes in about 5 minutes of doing nothing. What in the holy f**k are they doing? Just sleeping on their mountains of cash????

Part of me believes this entire thing was by design so that in the end even more global wealth is consolidated into the hands of a few.

Over the years while providing learning experiences for videophiles, there have been many professionally nuanced posts regarding some topics. Particularly in assessing for picture quality, (PQ being a long established talking point for physcial media be it Blu-ray disc or UHD Blu-rays), these techno discussions have been rather clinical with regards to color vision and quite often, visual acuity and
20/20 vision ; however, given the times we live in, something more philosophical from the heart as broadcast nationally last evening –

And an example of one of the many ripple effects some folks may be totally unaware of…..

I saw an update yesterday, a 4th member of that family has now passed. All within a week. 3 more are still in the hospital. Most depressing story I've heard in all this madness.

My sister-in-law was admitted to hospital in Chicago yesterday with severe shortness of breath bordering on ARDS.

no cookies, no problem, an excerpt (from a little recognized journal known as Lancet) -
"Current management of COVID-19 is supportive, and respiratory failure from acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is the leading cause of mortality.
Secondary haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (sHLH) is an under-recognised, hyperinflammatory syndrome characterised by a fulminant and fatal hypercytokinaemia with multiorgan failure. In adults, sHLH is most commonly triggered by viral infections and occurs in 3·7–4·3% of sepsis cases.

Cuomo said today he purchased 6,000 additional ventilators. I don't know the timetable on those though. Cuomo also stated that some of the ventilators will allow multiple patients to be on a single one.

I just read that Governor Cuomo has fast tracked hydroxychloroquine + Zithromax. Does anyone know how soon they will start administering this?
I hope they get the results we’re all looking for.

They requested 10,000 doses from the FDA, and will start trials as soon as they get them. Really good news.

Both are generic. 90% of the generic drugs people take in America are generic. 80% of active ingredients for drugs the US takes are made in India and China.

Throw in worldwide demand all at once and the supply chain breaks, or is significantly different from just even 6 months ago.

also, that article is from may 2019 and kind of explains the Department of Defense report.

In order not to derail the VUDU thread, some thoughts here instead:

The only things we know for certain right now is that we have no idea when this crisis is going to end. We have no idea how disastrous this will become for everything we considered 'normal' up to now. We have no idea what a post-COVID-19 future will look like.

Two weeks ago, the suggestion that we wouldn't be able to find toilet paper on the shelves would have been preposterous. The idea that we might have to lockdown an entire country would have been seen as alarmist at best, akin to anarchy at worst. Yet here we are.

Things are changing daily - hell, hourly! The way we usually interact are changing. Some of those ways will bounce back - we are a social species and will always crave the companionship of gatherings, large and small - but perhaps not all.

We are in the midst of a social experiment that none of us asked to participate in. The closest historical analogies we have - world wars, 9-11 - are imprecise as a precursor to what we may expect in the long term. The world has changed and people are rightly scared. When people are scared, people become unpredictable.

Like most people I'm sure, I would love everything to just go back to the way it was before. But realistically, I don't see that happening. Unfortunately, I believe things will get worse, will be endured for longer than we anticipate right now and will change us irrevocably.

Some of those changes, I hope, will be positive - a respect for our environment, a realisation of what truly matters to us personally, that we are all connected. I hope I'm right.

That's all. Stay sane, stay safe.
