I haven’t forgotten anything. There are states that didn’t go into lockdown mode or put lockdowns later and did not have hospitals overwelmed. Everywhere is not NY or some other densely populated area. With the exception of some places, hospitals being overwhelmed is more fear based than actual reality.

I just had an appointment with my doctor last week. She said many of doctors at the hospital having nothing to do and are being sent home or whatever.

And you're saying this as an expert in the field?

Sounds like you and many others expect the experts to instantly have all this information about a previously unknown virus. They call it "novel" because it's never before been encountered. We're all human here, including the experts. The smartest minds on the planet are working on how to deal with this issue and doctors and nurses are working 16 hour shift to try and save lives, while internet commenters are complaining that they can't go to the beach. They discover new information every day, and some of what they thought they knew yesterday turns out to be wrong tomorrow. You can't be mad at them for not having all the answers. What you can be mad about is how things have been handled by those making decisions, many of whom have been ignoring what the exerts have been saying.

This is something I don't see mentioned enough:

https://www.yahoo.com/news/device-on...132933672.html

The device one doctor says you should have in COVID-19 fight

Quote:
Levitan told "CBS This Morning" co-host Gayle King that people could potentially detect coronavirus earlier by checking their oxygen levels at home with pulse oximeters.
Quote:
Normally we are 94% to 100% on these devices, these pulse oximeters that measure how much oxygen we have in our blood. And people were showing up with oxygen levels of 50%.
Quote:
Levitan: You know, what is amazing to me with this disease is people's brains are working fine. … Their oxygen levels have gone down to scary low levels, but it has happened slow enough that their body has accommodated. So they are not like every other patient we see with serious lung disease … What I'm saying is this disease kills by silent hypoxia, and patients should understand that shortness of breath is a late sign.

King: Hypoxia is what, exactly?

Levitan: Low oxygen.
I've seen a couple articles now that suggest measuring your blood oxygen level daily, as one of the early signs can be the dropping of your blood oxygen level. Some smart fitness bands do this now. My Huawei Honor Band 5 has this feature, and it cost no more than $45 shipped from the UK to the US direct from Amazon UK. I got it for the sleep tracking, which is superb - the best I've seen, but it also does a great job of monitoring oxygen levels - just start the test and about 30 seconds later you know exactly what your SpO2 level is. It should normally be around 94-100% (I always read at 98%-99%). If you suddenly see it dropping alarmingly low over the course of a day or two, it could be an indicator that you may have been infected. It's also a great feature to have if you run or exercise, to see how your SpO2 levels are after exercising.

I only mentioned my Honor Band 5 because it was cheap and I'm pretty happy with it, but there are several other fitness bands out there that have this feature too. Might be worth looking into for some of you.

It's based off of your YEARLY income. Not monthly or weekly. So that doesn't work.

And, again, that's only for people who make a regular wage. How do you propose those of us who don't get that calculated? Do you know how many waiters are out of work right now?
No, but a doctor note saying you have an underelying condition should be sufficient, it shouldn't have to have the condition listed.

It’s funny how the “experts” don’t have to be actually right about anything in order to you know.... Be experts.

Nobody is saying they should know everything, but they should know more than what they have shown.

You lean a little too hard on the appeal to authority fallacy.

Sometimes the so called experts are wrong.

It reminds me of when I was diagnosed with diabetes. A 12.4 A1c.

The doctor prescribed me insulin shots and Metformin... Didn’t tell me any real health messures to reverse my condition... Just take my meds and that’s about all I needed to do.

Instead, I realized that taking insulin shots wasn’t the answer as a type 2 diabetic and I never took them. Cut my carbs to 75 a day and 7 months later I’ve lost 75 pounds and with an A1c in the low 5’s. No thanks to the “experts”.

That’s not to say that medical experts can’t be listened to at all, but sometimes you have to come to your own conclusions after reading and listening instead of just blindly listening to someone just because they’re deemed to be “an expert”.

Loss of smell was added as a symptom of this virus - has anything been said about smell "retention"? I got into an elevator this morning with a homeless woman, who proceeded to berate me for having the gall to use an elevator. I guess she took one look at me, saw I was young and apparently healthy and thought what the hell I was doing taking an elevator. Anyway, her breath was relentless and now I think the stench has attached itself to my face mask. Either that or it's in my nose. Yuck.

I didn't stay quiet, though. I told her to shut up and mind her own business, just like I would with anyone. It's no one's business why I take an elevator. I could have any number of legit reasons to and laziness is at the bottom of the list. Even if I was being lazy, so what?

It's not overwhelming because of the social distancing practices. You get rid of that prematurely and you will see hospitals exceed their capacities soon enough.

It's more than social distancing in California, they are being far too controlling.

Stop with the constant strawmen, it seriously hurts your reputation.

I hadn't seen this before...(apologies if already posted)

https://www.ucsf.edu/news/2020/04/41...sf-uc-berkeley

Quote:
In head-to-head comparisons of a dozen tests, the researchers have already found that many of the tests performed reasonably well, especially two weeks or more after infection, when levels of antibodies in the blood begin to peak. But many of the test kits have false positive rates that may exceed the proportion of people who have been infected in some communities. That means that a large proportion of those testing positive on an antibody test may not actually have had COVID-19.

Notice all this thread is are members going back and forth pointlessly? People who think the economies should open up and those of you who do not. I'm done with this circle jerk, constantly repeating myself. I'll continue to post my thoughts, and those with common thoughts I'd be happy to converse with. No one is going to change any one else's mind at this point.

After 356 pages, you're *just* noticing that?

I love how, in the same paragraph, you say that you're done with this "circle jerk" and then say that you're going to keep posting. That's not usually how that works.

Good stuff from the WHO's top emergencies expert!

Sweden this past Sunday...from the NY Post's article reporting the same:

Looks almost alien after 7 weeks of lockdown doesn't it?

Not at all, but I choose to follow data and not fall into fear mongering.
