The more we discover about WHO and who's running it (partners) and also on China, the more scary it becomes ... it's like a bad virus, a bad nightmare.

I agree with you, from my readings.

Kid Cudi and Eminem released a new song. "Adventures of moon man and slim shady." Throughout the song there are couple of mentions of the virus and calls for people to wear masks. Most of the lyrics about current events came from Eminem.

And you guys (your Mom) found some of those poisonous toxic deadly products on your shelves in New York City!

Yes Fauci certainly knows his stuff but he's not the only one out there. I like to get viewpoints from other experts as well. But I understand if you mainly hang your hat with Fauci. Can't go wrong.

Certainly going to be a new record today. Over 43,000 and many states, included California and Texas, haven't submitted their totals yet. And Friday is typical the peak day for cases anyway.

States having the highest percentage increase of cases last 2 weeks:

• ID: 191%
• MT: 176%
• FL: 164%
• WV: 137%
• NV: 125%
• AK: 122%
• GA: 121%

I'm sorry, but there is nothing to see there now. There are other EU countries doing no better or even worse, and they had lockdowns. Besides, herd immunity was never their strategy. Only not having a lockdown. They still practiced social distancing and basic common sense.

So maybe time to stop beating that dead horse and find another country to pick on. And I have a pretty good idea who that candidate might be.

The GAA in Ireland has released updated match regulations this evening after 2 players in West Cork have been placed in a 14 day mandatory quarantine after they came into close contact with each other from last weekend resulting in one of the players being tested positive for Covid-19. 3 GAA clubs in West Cork have now taken the decision to temporarily suspend all GAA underage & adult based activity including match training with immediate effect as a result of the positive test result which happened to a player from Agrideen Rangers GAA Club. The GAA in Ireland will have it's club match season for it's players resuming next Friday; July 17th.

The updated match regulations do appear to be quite substantial as a way to prevent Covid-19 among all GAA players & officials. The link for them is listed below.

https://www.rte.ie/sport/gaa/2020/07...s-on-sideline/

Quote:
The GAA's return-to-play protocols state that, in the event of a suspected Covid-19 case, all further activity must be stopped until public health contact tracers carry out full close contact assessment and testing.

For Soccer fans; UFEA have completed the draw today for it's revised Champions League mini-tournament which is due to take place in Lisbon later this year.

All matches in the tournament are to be played as one off matches & behind closed doors. The closed door Quarter Final games will be played in the club stadium provided by Sporting Lisbon on August 7th/8th. The Semi-finals will be held in the stadium owned by Benfica on August 18th/19th. The Final will be held at The Stadium of Light in Lisbon on the 23rd of August.

https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/53361418

The Champions League is much shorter than usual this year because the knock-out stages of the tournament is usually played in 2 legs meaning each team plays against each other twice in the both the QF & SF with one match played in their own stadiums. I think this idea of playing the games within at one stadium out of a maximum of 3 is a really good one because it makes it so much easier for the teams to play all of these matches in one venue in where there is a guaranteed chance for it to be played. All of the teams in this case also do not have to travel to various countries in Europe to play a CL game with an opposing team which also helps in lessening the spread of Covid-19 even further while not doing too much international travel. Obviously the CL Final is played between two teams once but if they are no goals being scored in the match; it then goes into extra time for 30 more minutes which is 15 minutes at each half. If ET has no goals scored; penalties from each team will decide the outcome of the match which definitely lasts over 2 hours which is a long time for soccer players on the pitch.

If a situation arises in a matches in where players are playing the match for more than 90 minutes. They would need to have more extended water breaks at certain times in extended matches to prevent them from being exhausted on the pitch. UFEA don't want to put themselves into a situation in where a player falls down on the pitch due to exhaustion & then assume that the same player has suspected Covid-19 without having any symptoms of the virus. I suppose that exhaustion would come from having a high temperature on your forehead as well as you wouldn't have any energy left within your body if you have any of the Covid symptoms.

I have not seen this situation arising from players or other staff involved in the English Premier League or F1 yet which is a good sign so far since they have returned to their reduced season calendars. Thank goodness.

New statement today from the American Academy of Pediatrics :
Quote:
School reopening guidance: A message from the AAP President
Dear Colleagues:

Yesterday, I participated in a roundtable event at the White House with public health and elected officials, including President Trump, to discuss school re-openings and the Academy’s latest guidance.

The decision on how to return to school this fall is an incredibly difficult one. Pediatricians, parents and educators all share the same goal of wanting children to be back in the classroom as much as possible, but we must do so in a way that is safe and feasible.

It’s unfortunate that our guidance is being politicized by some and misinterpreted to mean a universal return to school no matter what. That is not what we recommend. When public health expertise is reframed to fit political interests, it harms those who have the most at stake and least opportunity to advocate for themselves: children.

As pediatricians, we understand that children get so much more from school than just an education. They also learn social and emotional skills, get healthy meals and exercise, mental health support and other things that cannot be provided with online learning. Schools play a critical role in addressing racial and social inequity. This pandemic is especially hard on families who rely on school lunches, have limited access to the Internet or health care.

We also understand that COVID-19 does not seem to be impacting children nearly as severely as other respiratory illnesses. They tend to get infected less, suffer less extreme symptoms and are less likely to transmit the virus to others.

With these considerations in mind, AAP strongly advocates that the goal should be to have students physically present in school. This should happen with careful measures to keep students and staff safe, and with flexibility to adapt as needed to the community’s prevalence of COVID-19.

Schools will need new resources to keep students, teachers and staff safe. I am very concerned by recent statements from federal leaders threatening to withhold federal funds from schools that do not pursue in-person reopening in the fall. This would put already financially strapped schools in an impossible position that would endanger the very people we are trying to protect.

I understand this issue hits home for many of us – we are parents ourselves, we have seen loved ones fall ill and die from COVID, we care for children who are at high risk or who live with adults who are at high risk for contracting COVID. We understand the tremendous strain teachers have been under throughout this pandemic, and we empathize with the struggle that so many parents have been enduring as well.

We will continue doing what we’ve always done, which is to lean into the evidence, prioritize children’s health and safety, and use our platform to make a difference. Below are some resources related to our school guidance:

Updated school re-entry guidance and media talking points for pediatricians
HealthyChildren.org article for parents on returning to school safely (here in Spanish)
Facebook Live conversation from today with David Hill, MD, FAAP, and AAP President-Elect Lee Savio Beers, MD, FAAP, emphasizing our school re-entry guidance
An NPR interview I gave this morning on Morning Edition
Infographic checklist for schools to reopen safely, to share on social media
Thank you for all you do for children.

Sincerely,

Sara "Sally" Goza, MD, FAAP
President

If we want to reopen schools we might want to go to a boarding school model. Then we could isolate the schools and test people as they reenter the schools allowing closed bubbles to protect students similar to how the queen is protected. the down side is it would be expensive and it would mean parents sending their kids away for probably months at a time. The up side is it would be better for the kids making it so they would not need to socially distance or wear masks and could basically act normal.

How would that be feasible? No facilities and no parent would allow such a thing anyway (or at least, very few).

Well I believe this is the first time I’ve referenced Sweden….at least with regards to COVID-19. Not sure if NBC news has had one of these summaries on their situation published in video form online before.

If Sweden has indeed been trending as a topic for awhile, perhaps it's due to their different approach to the virus as compared to many other countries in the world.

Penton, sorry I certainly wasn't referring to you, just the media.

Sweden's situation was rather unique so that had a unique method of dealing with it. Besides, I don't think they were the only country not to have a lockdown.

And a third of them are in the U.S. Good lord, 71,000 cases. I guess Fauci was right that we'll get up to 100,000.
