Gunpowder Milkshake (2021)

Guardians of the Galaxy and Jumanji star Karen Gillan has signed on to topline Gunpowder Milkshake, an action thriller from Studiocanal and The Picture Company.

Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado, the duo behind the dark Israeli breakout Big Bad Wolves, are directing the project. The pair also wrote the script with Ehud Lavski.

Plot details are being kept muzzled, but the pic is described as being in the assassin genre with a story that spans multiple generations. The entire cast is envisioned as being all-female, with Gillan the cornerstone.

Kill Bill, the opus by Big Bad Wolves fan Quentin Tarantino, and Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver are the touchstones of the project, with "stylish," "snappy" and "violent" its watchwords.

The Picture Company partners Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman will produce Gunpowder Milkshake through their overall deal with Studiocanal.

Gillan, who last year made her directorial feature debut with the indie The Party's Just Beginning, has risen to be a key player in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, appearing as Nebula in the two Guardians of the Galaxy movies and last year’s $2 billion hit, Avengers: Infinity War. She is slated to return for Avengers: Endgame this summer.

The actress is also one of the stars of the rebooted Jumanji franchise and will shoot Jumanji 2 alongside Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart and Jack Black in February. The plan is to lens Gunpowder Milkshake after that, with production eyeing a Berlin shoot in the spring.

Gillan is repped by UTA, Troika and Jackoway Tyerman.

She’s still got a final season of Game of Thrones to come, but Lena Headey is moving on. She has been set to co-star in Gunpowder Milkshake, the action thriller that Aharon Keshales & Navot Papushado will direct for Studiocanal and The Picture Company. Headey joins Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle‘s Karen Gillan, who was set to star earlier this year.

Pic was a hot title as AFM last fall that sold around the world and begins production this spring in Berlin. The Big Bad Wolves team of Keshales & Papushado wrote the script along with Ehud Lavski. Gunpowder Milkshake is a high-concept action thriller with a rich mythology that revolves around a multi-generational ensemble cast.

The Picture Company partners Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman will produce through their overall deal with Studiocanal.

Beyond her final season as the ruthless Queen Cersei in GoT that premieres in April, Headey also recently starred alongside Dwayne Johnson in MGM’s Fighting With My Family, a film that just premiered at Sundance.

Didier Lupfer, Ron Halpren and Shana Eddy will oversee for Studiocanal.

Headey is repped by CAA and UK agency Trokia along with manager Tina Thor.

I don't think she's shitty as an actress but she is kind of annoying as Nebula in the Marvel Studio films. The other films I've seen her in she did a decent enough job.

She'll forever be Amy Pond to me, but it doesn't mean that I don't want to see her in as much as possible. Well, haven't seen Jumanji, but that's not my thing. But otherwise, definitely.

She is staggeringly awful going wildly over the top In a Valley of Violence, but thankfully that seems to be her nadir. Most of her supporting work is pretty solid, but I have my doubts about her being able to carry a picture as lead.

The entire movie was basically a parody. What exactly did you expect?

It's more of a pastiche played poker-face straight like all of Ti West's films, but it's an incredibly bad performance regardless: everybody else judges the tone correctly but she plays it wildly OTT like a tiresome amateur dramatics ham on a drunken hen party. She doesn't even seem to be in the same movie as the rest of the cast.

Amy Pond was one of my favourite companions EVER!! But it's also nice to see her career going pretty nicely lately!
