Disney Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)

Quote:
Two More ‘Star Wars’ Spin-Offs Revealed: Young Han Solo And Boba Fett

When Disney officially announced they would be making Star Wars spin-off movies between the new, official episodes, some fans intensified the process of fantasizing about two characters: Han Solo and Boba Fett. According to Entertainment Weekly, films spotlighting those fan-favorites are in the works.

While the development is still in its earliest stages, films are being discussed which would be based on the adventures of a young Han Solo, set between Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope, and the actions of Boba Fett, set either between Episode IV: A New Hope and Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back or between Empire and Return of the Jedi.

Entertainment Weekly broke the story and was very decisive in saying both these projects are being developed but also “it’s still very early in the process and, well, the deal could always be altered further.” Neither Disney nor LucasFilm would comment.

But what about that Yoda movie we heard about earlier this week?

Quote:
Edward Douglas @EDouglasWW
@Breznican @EW No Yoda?!?!?!?!?
Anthony Breznican @Breznican
There will be many spin-offs. I'm not negating the Yoda report at all. @EDouglasWW

Disney CEO Bob Iger never specifically said how many spin-off films were being discussed in his official announcement, just that Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg were working on two of them:

Quote:
I can confirm to you today that in fact we are working on a few standalone films, Larry Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are both working on films derived from great Star Wars characters that are not part of the overall saga. We still plan to make Star Wars 7, 8, and 9 roughly over a six-year period of time, starting in 2015. But there are going to be a few other films released in that period, too.
EW also reports by setting these films in the frame work of the first two trilogies, characters such as Darth Vader and Jabba the Hutt could be brought back and seen in their primes once again.

The origins of Han Solo and Boba Fett (though we’ve already seen some of his history) would certainly qualify as films fans would drool over. In the case of Solo alone, the events that could be dramatized are endless: his feud with Jabba, winning the Millennium Falcon, the Kessel Run, etc. Of course, being as he’d be younger, you’d have to recast him and those are some mighty huge shoes to fill. Boba Fett is less difficut as almost any actor could jump in that armor; maybe even Jeremy Bulloch or Daniel Logan, the two actors who portrayed him in the Original and Prequel trilogies.

A recent book, Scoundrels by Timothy Zahn, told a Han Solo tale from the aforementioned time period. EW, however, said this book would not be used as a basis for the film. There was also no word if Joe Johnston, who designed the Boba Fett armor and has been vocal about wanting to make a Fett movie, was involved.

Besides casting, here’s the big question: Are these stories we want to see told? Is it better for them to be imaginary and live between the lines or do we want to see where Boba Fett was before being eaten by the Sarlacc Pitt?

Han Solo has blue eyes. JGL has blue.

But that never stopped them messing with eye color in Young Indiana Jones.

Is this like Young Indiana Jones?

All kidding aside, I would hope that Disney would leave the original characters alone and venture with some of the other interesting potential stories like the Mandalorians or Mandalorian Wars or some of the Knights of the Old Republic story-lines.

I am in no matter what. It will be tough to find a young Harrison Ford, but they did it several times with Indy.

I keep hearing it brandied about that this has to do with Disney, and that's not the case. Kennedy, the head of Lucasfilm, is the one that's spearheading all these films. She's been working on these for over a year with Lucas, before the Disney deal happened. So if you guys want to lay this on someone, lay it down on her.

It's also kind of funny to me, I used to hear fans saying frequently they'd love movies about characters like Han before 'A New Hope'. Now, they're happening, and fans are upset. I just don't get it. I'm just happy the 'Star Wars' universe is finally being expanded on and fully realized in a way it hasn't been before. Lucas was never willing to delve any deeper into his universe, and I'd say it's about time it finally happened. I'm looking forward to these.

It's 'Star Wars', with a good chance that'll it feature the original cast. It's going to pan out extraordinarily, at least from a financial standpoint. There's nothing to worry about there.

They are losing their minds. And the Star Wars fan base will follow.
With this oversaturation of SW material, fans will get turned off quickly, especially if it's not up to standard.

One of the enduring attractions was the fact Lucas kept just enough of the story outside of fans' knowledge of his created universe, it kept followers attention... and guessing.

The market has been over saturated with 'Star Wars' stuff for years. Look how many books, comics, games, and things of that nature come out a year. Plus a TV series. There's no saying that all these films will roll out at the same time. I'm sure they'll pump the brakes and release one, maybe a two a year, for a little while. Much like Marvel has done. They can get away with that, and if it's done with quality and care, people will still enjoy them.

I stand corrected then. Don't get me wrong, I have no qualms about Disney handling this franchise. I'm actually happy they have it. All I'm saying is that I really would like to see them visit some of the other Universe storylines.

As for this Han Solo potential movie I don't really remember hearing people wanting this but that's fine if there are those who want it. I'd go see it if they do go forward with it, but I just don't know if it is a story that really needs to be told. But I guess we shall see.

So excited about this news! They can make as many Star Wars movies and spin-offs as they want, they'll have my money all of the time.

As long as each film starts with "A Long Time Ago, In A Galaxy Far Away"......que Star Wars theme music, I'll be there!!!

Its very similar and just as useless and stoopid. Here we focking go.... one lousy idea after another one. Lets see if we can ruin every character. I knew this Disney thing would end up being hopeless. Why did I have faith?

Coming soon:
Leia - the Teen years
Luke - From toddler to kindergarden
Chewy - When I was a tiny furball
Yoda - the greenest seasons
Palpatine - as a college querterback for Notre Dame before becoming all sithy
Mace Windu - My life on the Bodey Plantation
Padme - The "I was just a ***** and egg" years

I dont know what fans wanted any of this stuff. I LIKE the characters just the way they are, thanks. No need to see Han Solo struggling as a teenager or whatever. Who cares? Its not needed. Oh, just like Man of Steel Im SURE Han Solo will be a tortured soul with an identity problem and there wil be 10 minute long scenes of him floating in a pond staring out into space while the end music for Gladiator plays. Fock....

Are there links for that? As you say, Lucas was so against doing anything else Star Wars that I can't imagine him planning these with Kennedy a year before the deal with Disney.

The thing is, with fans, they never know what they want -- when they know they can't have something, it becomes important that it is done. When, like in this case, it becomes true, there's suddenly a hesitance because it might all go wrong. I think that the more films Disney and Kennedy make like these, the more likely it is that some will be weak; when you're planning so many, a couple of the projects will become less worked on or less cherished than others, and that will show.

Only time will tell, however. No point in putting a downer on these things before they've happened.

Why do you guys keep blaming Disney? They didn't ruin marvel, they didn't ruin Pixar, and they let the companies run themselves. Again, if you're upset about all this, lay the blame on Lucasfilm and Kennedy, who were working on these plans before the Disney buyout.

It was said in interviews she had been working on this stuff with Lucas, before he appointed her head of the studio. He planned on giving her the keys to the kingdom before the buyout. When Disney entered the picture, it was able to reinforce the idea that they could do what they wanted, on their terms, like Marvel studios does. They've even said Lucas left the outlines for VII-IX, and he pitched a solo film for Jabba the Hutt, and Joe Jonhston pitched a solo Boba Fett film last year, or the year before. So i take they've been working on it for a while now.

The prequels weren't up to standard, and that didn't stop fans from coming.

Invalid argument.

No one's forcing you to so go see it, either, so problem solved. But I bet that you will, even if you feel it's "not needed".
