at sea many sequences qualified as training exercises for the naval aviators which meant they could be filmed at no additional cost to the studio, but the studio had to fork out the dough to make some in-air scenes happen

Although you do get my admiration for taking the time to listen to the interview and consider yourself a step above the typical guy who eventually sees the movie in knowing that you’re aware of the scope and attention to detail given by Tom and others to the production.
