And for those who may have missed the HDR Digital Cinema presentation last November (but at least arriving very soon on SDR Blu-ray) a classy touch for Moana
was in the credits at the end of the movie, the caring inclusion/mention of those children born to crew members during the production.

No love for Laika? I can't say for certain, but they may have started that with Boxtrolls, continuing it on Kubo. (I still regret not getting the chance to see Kubo in Dolby, especially since they did not release a UBD.)

Uh, didn't Pixar (with that Lasseter guy) start the 'production babies' thing like 20 years ago?

You're right. I just looked at the oldest Pixar movie I have, Monster's Inc, and they have production babies.

There's even a wiki page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Production_babies

While the 2017 HPA Tech Retreat was going on in Indian Wells, Calif., apparently the French were capturing a live opera in 4K for rendering in HDR for a new project.

Nice article and the latest news on HDR10+ (or maybe HDR10PLUS) is from John Archer who writes tech articles for Forbes. He posted about HDR10+ on Twitter and it sounds like Samsung will formally announce it in April.

Samsung lied to its customers last year then. They said their 2016 TVs could be updated with dynamic HDR10.

So according to John Archer, HDR10+ is not standardized by a standards body.

"Samsung's proprietary (though open source, royalty-free) dynamic HDR system."

Yeah this would be a pretty big piss off to 2016 buyers after that statement though I'm content with plain old HDR10 for now until this all gets sorted out anyway. Most everyone else is jumping on DV now anyway and aren't there still 3 or 4 other propositions for dynamic HDR10 also? So it'll be interesting to see if any studios or other manufacturers sign on for support or it'll be useless anyway.

Hell I just replaced my 3rd K8500 with the Sony x800 so I'm not looking forward to having to buy another Samsung 4k player to get the HDR10+. I'll wait it out from here to see if the Sony gets DV and/or support for whatever dynamic HDR10 is decided upon.

lol now Samsung reps are denying they ever said that dynamic HDR10 was possible on the 2016 models, even though this was covered by several people at last year's NAB show. They're also now saying that HDR10 cannot be upgraded via firmware updated. I spoke to several of them through email and live chat.

Guess that confirms no "HDR10+" on the 2016 TVs, even though last year they said they could do it.

Nice one, Samsung!

Samsung also said they would update their UHD player to Netflix's HDR app. Still waiting. I bought a very promising NX1 4k hybrid camera (even had a 6k sensor in it) and they dumped their camera line with no support. The QC across their company has taken a nose dive and they were implicated in Korean corruption scandals as well.

I'm done with the f--kers.

Netflix HDR is actually available now on the K8500, surprisingly. You can update the firmware manually, and it enables HDR on Netflix.

Still, the way they've handled this dynamic HDR10 thing has been absurd. They probably won't even update last year's models with HLG either.

One positive amidst the other things I added in the edited post above.

HDR10+, like with HDR+HFR is

For those AV journalists not privy to professional events, looking beyond looking out imminently for HDR10+…..more UHD phase 2 (HDR and HFR (100fps) together content has already been produced and demoed at industry seminars like this… https://tech.ebu.ch/pts2017

From said event….

Close up, several frames later -

These are exciting times.

To be clear, similar to the thumbnail of the HDR sequence with HLG transfer characteristics in regards to another project, the above pics ^ are purely for documentation of the content and/or demo’s existence, not for visual analysis of the imagery vis-ŕ-vis members’ devices when viewing on Blu-ray.com.

Just to play devil's advocate but this could have been due to an overly optimistic Samsung employee saying this during NAB 2016 because he heard that they were working on a firmware update. Samsung was likely working on a firmware update but after testing difficult scenes they might have realized that the processor in their 2016 HDR TVs wasn't good enough. That would explain why there was talk about a firmware update during NAB 2016 but Samsung got very quiet about it during the second half of 2016.

It sounds like Samsung is just going to release HDR10+ and try to build momentum for it. If they can get enough support for it than they can get it approved by the CTA.

Samsung was talking about a firmware update for HLG as recently as November so unless they are a glutton for bad publicity I would be surprised if they went back on that.

If Colorfront makes a big splash with Transkoder 2017 at NAB, zee Beat will cover it… http://www.businesswire.com/news/hom...0301006164/en/, if gochya (https://twitter.com/gochya) stringing for postPerspective doesn’t.
