Let's just hope Star Wars VII will be in 4K, but given JJ Abram had never made a 4K movie, and the movies will be released in 2D......just hope
Any news about The Scorch Trials? The first one has a 4K DI and I hope this one finishes in 4K too. Also hoping Snowden will be in 4K. |

Uh...you know about all those other films shot on 35mm which were finished in 2K over the last 15-odd years, right? Heck, JJ's last feature was shot on 35mm and 65mm IMAX and still got a 2K finish, it's the addition of 3D which usually puts the kibosh on a 4K finish unless it's a Sony movie. Which this is not.
I ain't saying it won't happen, but nothing is guaranteed. I hope Disney do it though, it's not like this movie is going to tank so they can afford to finish it in 4K. They did it for Tomorrowland, which did tank, but fingers crossed that hasn't put them off. |

Anything's possible, but bear in mind that UHD will be using a newer compression codec, not an older, inefficient one left over from the last format. The proof of the pudding is in the eating, as the saying goes.

where did you read that? I don't' see any way they get away with that, not when they're pushing that UltraHD won't be as expensive to upgrade to as we feared (Samsung saying their player will definitely retail under $500)

![]() https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=218262 https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=220755 The two above lists ^ being thee most original and comprehensive of any others on the internet that at least I'm aware of. Regardless, rather than dwelling entirely on spatial resolution from more *resolution-challenged* studios, it may take some time (many months or years), but there will come a day when astute videophiles will become more educated and appreciate the significance of what was the bit depth that the studio employed in the production pipeline resulting in UHD deliverables….. Please tell me that packaging ^ is provisional as it looks confusing as hell. Surely, it would make more sense to include the official Ultra HD Blu-ray branding as oppose to the "4K Ultra HD" they have chose to emblaze across the top

![]() ![]() The other thing that concerns me is the limitations of the current technology. We know that the compression is in its early phases and will only get better. We know that triple layer discs are going to be rare at best for awhile (or longer if the format doesn't gain pretty steady adoption and the investment makes sense). So we're already going to simply upconvert 2K masters so we can put a 4K label on them and have to now compress onto a smaller disc size a filed that could easily be MUCH smaller allowing more breathing room for compression and all the other extras they want to add (HDR, immersive audio). How does this not bother anyone else? I was hopeful when the UHD spec came out because it claimed support for 1080p as well and I hoped that meant we would see more transparency like we do in the theatrical world. Just deliver the movie with all the bells and whistle in the resolution it was mastered in. |
