Do the HDR10+ dynamic metadata have to be carried over HDMI 2.1 using the HDMI 2.1 transmission of SMPTE ST 2094 dynamic metadata, or do they have to be embedded into the video signal like the Dolby Vision dynamic metadata?
Thanks |

No HDMI 2.1 needed. 2.0b will get the job done at least in the 4K BD world.

HDR10 needs HDMI 2.0a and higher. HDR10+ only needs HDMI 2.0 and higher! As far as I understand, compatibility testing of transmission of SMPTE ST 2094 / CTA-861-G dynamic metadata is defined in the upcoming HDMI 2.1 Compliance Test Specification. Once passed the compliance test of the HDMI 2.1 transmission of dynamic metadata, the device maker can claim that his device is HDMI 2.1 compliant, as all features in HDMI 2.1 are optional and even if the device is using a HDMI 2.0 chipset. |

As far as I know, it is the first time that all features are optional.

Panasonic has confirmed twice that HDMI 2.0 is enough, so has Vincent Teoh, and now so has 2themax. Furthermore, the HDMI.org has stated that dynamic HDR can be added via firmware update on HDMI 2.0 devices. |
