New TV turned out to be a bust. Picture is nice enough, but the 3D - which was the whole point - absolutely ghastly. More ghosting than the Haunted Mansion. So Amazon's coming to get it on Friday. Returning the glasses, too.

I am so screwed...Can't spend $2000, can't even find a decent 3D model with HDR for under $1500. I wasted all this money over the years on 3D content waiting for the prices to come down, and instead, the exact opposite happened. Some days it sucks to be me.

That to me is the most alarming sign that our planet is on the brink of extinction.
If HDR didn't exist we would be toast.

Can you suggest subjects for us to discuss here?
I feel the subjects are outside of the scope of Blu-ray.com, such as Comcast Internet, Comcast Technology, and feedback on certain TV shows that I like watching. As you can see I have been on Blu-ray.com for many year and I enjoy contributing (when I come up with I hope something meaningful). I feel you can learn something from many different sources if you can filter it correctly. Currently my main obsession is with politics and I feel that some of my friends on Facebook must hate me by now with the political post I put up.

As I previously mention I was an Artificial Intelligence Specialist and a Computer Security Officer. Unfortunately with what I feel is the lack of security safeguards in many of these "AI" products I am very hesitant to use any of these products. I believe I posted here a year or so ago how insecure the Samsung TV OS was, and hackers have found ways use computers to spy users and steal information. I rather put up with the inconvenience as stay away for IoT appliances.

Comcast is my favorite OTT carrier. I broke the news exclusively on Blu-ray.com that is not on "the other forum" that only Comcast is broadcasting the Winter Olympics in UHD/HDR to Comcast subscribers with X1 set-top-boxes.

I also became more active in politics recently, but keep silent on my feelings. I'd love to be Facebook friends. Here's my Facebook personal page and here's my business page.

Well that blows, the only choice in this town is Spectrum (formerly Bright House), or a satellite provider I suppose.

Not surprising at all...

From what I know Comcast and Verizon are rated as the top two OTT providers.

Just like all a/v devices they need to be set-up properly.

Comcast, Facebook, Spectrum and Verizon; they all do HDR?

I believe Comcast will be doing some 4K HDR during the Winter Olympics. Currently they are also doing 4K Netflix and hopefully will soon be doing 4K YouTube HDR. Due to competitive pressures I believe most cable companies will soon do some 4K HDR. I still mourn the loss of 3D on cable.

All right...trying again with a 2016 Sony Bravia...if this doesn't pan out, I don't know what other options there really are without spending 3 large.

They can't hate on little children holding up posters.
With regards to filtering, one should even filter the significance of rows and columns of numbers…. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...m#post14425591

Most emphasize HDR in relation to the ability to produce brighter speculars and more detail in the shadows, blacker blacks, but an underestimated benefit of good PQ HDR is the value it will enable in making skin tones appear more realistic than SDR with movie content....for humans. Few know the most accurate skin tones for wild marine iguanas and such.

That's a good point, high point you just brought up about HDR and more realistic human skin tones. It is my reference point to calibrate my vision/screen display. Some 4K discs, and BR discs too have more accurate skin tones than others. And, it can vary from scene to scene...it all depends, of the many people working with lights, natural environments, camera lenses, editors, colorists, etc. It's not a clean affair between a horror flick and a romance flick.

When we buy a new display, player; we fine tune slowly to get familiar, the sign of dedicated video calibrators, time...to acclimate our eyes and the new display. Human skin tones are the perfect reference in video calibration. I am not an expert professional, so please correct me if I say something that is incorrect.

The last few days for example, I've been working on my skin tones, on a movie to movie (4K) basis. ...Passengers, The Martian, Kink Kong, Atomic Blonde. HDR can work in mysterious ways, like god, like the voice of god above in an Auro-3D setup.

It's a very good point, and worth exploring with HDR. I'm all ears listening.

* 6'3" ... 239 pounds ... that's Donald Trump the golfer with a 3 handicap.

PTS Keynote free, now live –
https://tech.ebu.ch/pts2018

Keynote speakers probably won’t mention this detail - a worthwhile demo at the event will be IRT showing HDR HFR (100 fps) sporting content.
