Seriously very tough call, but your viewing distance, wall size, most popular content and ambient light viewing conditions all come into play when making the right decision for your specific needs.

Bottom line for viewing up to 10' and low ambient light viewing I'd likely go with the 77" OLED, but any further and you'd enjoy the X950G 85" more. I know it was a prototype and with selected content, but the 85" X950G looked stunning at CES and in the private off site meeting rooms.

Hope I don't get into trouble on this one with any members for my opinion and don't forget to call your friend when you have any questions or want to go ahead with your TV choice.

From my findings at CES 2019 this was on my very very short list of TVs I absolutely fell in love with. 55" to 85" screen choices makes this TV appealing to enthusiasts with a larger budget, but will enjoy the value/performance and to an even larger market of those on a moderate budget. I even wonder if folks who are looking in the entry level of TV offerings might consider the X950G or another one of the many other excellent step-up choices for 2019.

The X950G series has Sony's Backlight Master Drive, X1 Ultimate processor and the latest in panel and backlight control available.
By going for bigger is better with the 85” model, Sony is acting upon the principles first set forth to motion picture engineers in this paper…..https://archive.li/u51WZ <- the research of which I briefly referenced in 2014 with regards to purchasing decisions here - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...hk#post9667384

How ‘bout when it comes time to pay I say charge Mexico as “Mexico will pay for it”. Worked for about 30% of the population for a couple of years. Wonder how that would fly for getting a new TV?

In 2010, Sony even picked up on the fact that traditional charts applying Snellen introduced 20/20 vision to the ability to discern detail with regards to displays can underestimate the threshold of visual acuity of the HVS. From footnote #3 of their classic white paper – “……Stars visible to the naked eye represent powerful contrast against the night sky and can be smaller than one arcminute in diameter. Humans are also an order of magnitude more sensitive to misalignment (vernier acuity).”

Something known for years by those outside the motion picture and television community in many countries –

Hey Rob,

I was wondering if you have any insider knowledge on if Phillip's has plans to release new 4K UHD players this year.

Thanks.

For something not quite so technical -

“The Fellowship offers recipients a wide array of post-production technologies including Dolby Atmos, and new this year, the addition of Dolby Vision to further amplify the filmmakers’ visions” - https://www.financialbuzz.com/dolby-...lence-1290706/

Default First look: Philips 2019 OLED & LCD TVs

https://www.flatpanelshd.com/focus.p...&id=1548832697

Quote:
The headlining feature for Philips this year is Dolby Vision. It came as a surprise, partly because TP Vision was one of the first companies to jump on HDR10+, partly because the company in the past has argued that Dolby Vision offers no flexibility to to do picture enhancement.

Philips’ picture quality guru Danny Tack was quick to address the second point, saying that they have held many meetings with Dolby and now found a satisfactory compromise. The ‘Dolby Vision Dark’ mode in the TVs is pure with no additional picture processing, while ‘Dolby Vision Bright’ adds some enhancements on top. The latter will be the default mode and it seems as if Dolby has decided to easy its requirements in its quest to expand the ecosystem. That is bad news for Hollywood and directors such as Christopher Nolan who continue to push for a ‘reference mode’ in TVs.
