Providing that LCD doesn't get thrown under the bus then an 8K high-end set will probably be my next purchase as/when the ZD9 goes 'pop', but it won't be them ATE KAYS that I'll be buying it for.

I never would, but if I ever did somehow pay [more than some people earn in a year in the UK] for a television, it would have to be at least a 12-bit panel, with dolby vision support*, guaranteed mura-enabled perfect uniformity, and perfect near-black performance.

Anything less is money down the drain.

(* Yes I'm talking to you, every buyer of a mega-expensive Samsung!)

"ATE KAYS"? Thoroughly bamboozled by that one, sorry.

That youtube Q&A on the last page from the past SMPTE tech conference reminds me,

meanwhile, glancing at the numbers it looks like we’ve finally exceeded the 75,000 viewership mark for this thread this month and beaten out the high altitude guys…..

Still, I'm struck by the similarities between now and 2012 when Sony unveiled their first 4K consumer TV, also at 84" (hey, what's one inch between friends?) and also at an eye-watering cost, $25K IIRC? At least the price has halved in the interim.
That vid seemed more like a promo marketing thing. They should send one to you to evaluate.

Which is the main reason I'm holding off. And yet again something concerning greyish blacks is mentioned in an initial report on the Z9G... Not looking too good if you ask me.

I thought you said at one point you'd be looking at one of the Panasonic OLEDs should that happen (which made me wonder why you would go with OLED coming from a Z9D)? Anyway I have a feeling you (and I for that matter) will be holding on to the Z9D for quite some time to come...

another pet peeve regarding pronunciation (with no disrespect to Robert’s shootouts), but regardless of what Joe claimed here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNLIetJnVc4#t=9m21s

no it’s not!, people truly in the know, call it thusly - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...m#post10202017

like so - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxW7r9oqqp8#t=19m57s

I did like how the dude in that video said something like "it's got better PQ, or Sony tell me it's got better PQ" in that bit about the pixel grouping. Not everyone latches on to every marketing hook. My adage is pretty much "I'll believe it when I see it".

If the Zed went bang this very second then I still don't think there's an LCD on the market that can touch the ZD9 for all-round performance so I'd have to get the best OLED I possibly could and that Panny looks reet tasty. Yes, some of the latest Samsung LCDs do more nits and/or more pixels and/or wider colour gamut but it comes at the expense of nuking shadow detail and that ain't gonna fly with me. And I still wouldn't trust Samsung's image processing as far as I can throw it.

I'd try hunting for a 75" ZD9 first though, for the improved pixel response and higher zone count vs the 65".

@Stacey Spears I was wondering if your disc would have any content that would have a description of how DV graded content should look, assuming the target display follows PQ curve properly?
