HDR is Driving the Digital Transformation in Media, Entertainment and Beyond

Make no mistake about it. High Dynamic Range (HDR) is the future of digital entertainment. Today we’re at a major pivotal point in the industry, one that affects the entire entertainment ecosystem – from content creators and their creative vision, to content consumers in theaters and homes. As such, Technicolor is playing a key role in HDR content distribution, easing the transition to HDR by making it more seamless – all toward realizing the goal of HDR for everyone.

As the future of our entertainment delivery systems, we need to support an open ecosystem today, where there’s an open HDR workflow from start to finish and everybody can collaborate freely. The decisions we make today are crucial, so it’s important to understand the current state of HDR and how it’s primed to evolve over the next decade.

Toward that end, here’s a closer look at HDR with Technicolor’s Christian Zak, VP, Workflow and Technology.

We can only hope for a universal HDR streaming from all studios...ten years from now (2029).
8K UHD streaming. 4K Blu-ray discs might be playing with the dodo I think by then.

3D streaming might be back from apps to our 5G phones. ...In 8K, if not @ least 4K...and no goggles.

Toward that end,
a comprehensive course for those seriously desiring to learn more - https://www.smpte.org/education/courses/hdr
which leads to a certificate like this –

the way our sedentary society is going, and that includes adults (higher risk of diabetes, obesity, heart disease, cancer) as well as kids, one wonders if the day is fast approaching where all viewers will become too lazy to get off their butts and insert a disc in a player in order to watch a movie, much less, live an active lifestyle as recently warned/alerted to - https://www.nbcnews.com/nightly-news...-1510012995599

Which is the main reason I'm holding off. And yet again something concerning greyish blacks is mentioned in an initial report on the Z9G... Not looking too good if you ask me.

I thought you said at one point you'd be looking at one of the Panasonic OLEDs should that happen (which made me wonder why you would go with OLED coming from a Z9D)? Anyway I have a feeling you (and I for that matter) will be holding on to the Z9D for quite some time to come...
Panafonics make the only OLEDS worth buying, but I would still be tempted to ditch Sony and look at QLED Samsung's before that

Not me.

If I ever go OLED, it would be most definitely Sony only.

Should Sony exit out of the AV business completely, it would be Panasonic for TVs and JVC for projectors for me. I wouldn't want anything else.

Just got back from a nice bloody mary and lobster benedict breakfast. Gonna sit my sedentary arse on the couch. Might even schedule a nap for later. Gotta be frosty for GoT tonight. Winter is here, you know.

Using my powers of deduction, you're the one in the back with the blue and white shirt holding court over the group.

One might think the M report is written in lawyer speak and difficult for a layperson to understand, not to mention boring, but it’s not, and in fact, on the contrary, makes quite easy reading and is diametrically different than the Barr *portrayal*. This truly is history in the making…..or perhaps history repeating itself. If you don’t know what I mean then google “Cover up-General Barr” by William Safire (Pulitzer Prize -winning political columnist for The New York Times, Presidential speechwriter, etc.).

They are fine, especially as they fixed a ton if the issues the goldstar panels have, but they are weirdly not my first pick.
I never thought I would go Samsung ever, and yet they look near of late.
