MicroLED displays expected to reach mass market by 2026, says report

Sales of microLED, a potential alternative to OLED, are expected to rise from negligible levels in 2020 to mass-market territory by 2026, according to a report by IHS Markit.

MicroLED displays are difficult and expensive to manufacture but "steep declines in manufacturing costs make the emerging technology suitable for the mass market". That is according to IHS Markit's Micro LED Display Technology & Market report.

I doubt it will happen that quickly, at least not at the current form where installation is custom (custom in the sense that only the authorized dealers can do it), can’t be calibrated accurately down to each tile.

The install labour itself will be at least $1,200 (currently it takes at least two people and a full day to do the job). Plus the cost of the wall plus the fixed cost of the scaler as the brain of the TV

If the have fixed sizes, and/or do major changes from the current form then perhaps.

oh….given our discussion above about The Abyss, I thought you were confusing your Directors and actually thinking of Jim Cameron who once had a place in Santa Monica not much more than a couple miles away from there

Good news that Micro-led display will be a reality for masses. OLED and LED needs a replacement, both are stopgap technologies anyway. Micro-Led will be a game changer and no doubt a step forward.

So let's see a Sony MiniLED (or dual LCD) in the meantime first then!

For 75"+ screen sizes Sharp will be the first with a dual cell LCD 8K HDR TV. Hope to see them in the USA Q1 2020.

Sony did just launch the dual cell LCD professional grading monitor, BVM-HX310, but it's not a consumer grade TV.
