I watched Wonder Woman 1984 (IMAX 4K) last night on my Sony TV (HDR10) from HBO Max. I thought the picture quality and sound quality was very good. Gal Gadot was great as usual. Overall I enjoyed the movie, but it need a few more action sequences.

However, our HDR viewing on our Sony Z9D was problematic in the last 15+ minutes including the credits as the colors and brightness jumped around from yellow tints to bluish then neutral. It happened over and over. Brightness varied during some of these shifts as well. Pretty sure it was nothing to do with the tv. Was it excessive viewers on the streaming servers, or grading issues for HDR version, or something else. We didn’t see obvious buffering or stuttering during the end of the movie. We all 4 saw it and my daughter spoke up first, as I waited to see if one of them brought it up first. It was perplexing, have not seen this with 4K discs or other streaming HDR programs. Wondering if anyone else has had this experience? I did see a brief stutter in the first third somewhere that caused a 1-2 second sort of jump. Didn’t discern this happening any other time. |

LGs are, and have been, dominant in the Hollywood post production community because of their cost effectiveness. And those budget conscious shops and studios looking to upgrade their 2017/2018/2019 LG WRGB OLEDs this year are likely to have stuck with LG and chosen the LG CX because it has an appealing option in a menu where you can quickly set the HDR to P3D65 (which is necessary for mastering) without having to jump thru multiple hoops in order to get your work done (as was the case with the C8 and C9), then after mastering, move into 2020 color space for authoring.
Alternatively, those Hollywood shops with larger budgets and shall we say, being more investigatory proactive, seem to have chosen and installed Panasonic OLEDs because of those displays having a bit better picture. Seems the topic of LUTs in one form or another comes up every several months, which is a good thing because it provides an advanced learning tool. ![]() |

Also is there anything I can do with calibration on my 720p television to improve the PQ of a 4K transfer.
The disc I’m playing does seem a little dark. If that’s a stupid question..have mercy on my soul. |

While Tom is filming in Rome with his new sweetheart, I took the time to check two top HDR OLED guns .. LG and Sony. By the way in Canada the 65" class of those two specific models are the same price right now, $2,599 (roughly $800 off) till December 31 ...
* On another note; I saw some 75" HDR 4K UHD TVs (LED) for less than $700 (Cdn)! And, some 85" HDR LED TVs for less than $1,000 Cdn, wow! This is Boxing week, all week. HDR OLED, best. But, is it the perfect TV for everyone? How many years can you rely on; five, more, less? |

* 720p TVs you can't buy anymore today; even 1080p TVs are very rare, and 3D TVs are all but gone. TV grocery shopping stores carry 4K HDR TVs today (95%), and some cost less than a 1080p Oppo Blu-ray player, and 4K too. If stimulus money is coming use some of it for a new 4K HDR TV to match your 4K HDR Blu-ray player. That would be a sweet upgrade to your 720p display. And go HDR size as big as you can afford. Investing in home entertainment in the year 2021 is a better and safer investment than say a cruise ship romance, or a plane ticket to a month vacation in France, or Italy, or Germany, or UK, or ... Have a safe holiday time, @ home watching the best 2020 HDR 4K Blu-ray discs ... |
