Kevin S. (President of CSI - https://coloristsociety.com/ ) didn’t explicitly specify as to which, so does anyone know what type (technology-wise) professional displays Kevin is referring to with this comment today - “it’s already being discontinued in the professional displays”), timestamp here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=de...4Zck4#t=12m28s

Some here might be surprised as to the answer and no, he’s not referring to professional RGB oleds, that being old news.

Maybe not dead, but certainly moribund. Also LG - the only manufacturer to support it iirc? - has now removed support for it from their TVs! That says it all.

There's more chance of Samsung supporting Dolby Vision in all their TVs and also retrospectively firmware-upgrading all their old models from previous years to support Dolby Vision, than Advanced HDR by Technicolor taking off in any meaningful way IMHO.

Tonight, the Viewing Count for this HDR Discussion Thread is 9,135,668. March 31 was 8,797,955.
The difference= 337,713. approx 6140/day (for the 55 days the site was up & running.)
It's just a number, neither bad nor good. The pandemic has caused ups and downs on many things we care about.

On another note, this thread passed 15,000 posts today. HDR is having a good time.
We had a little party at the end of May!

It's July 1 and there's been some awful heat on the West and East of N America, up LOTR's way I heard of over 120F three days in a row! Be safe one and all. Where I am it's over 100F for 5 days in a row and the forecast for next 7 days are all over 100. Got our A/C tuned up last month for the summer.

Viewers here have been busy. This morning it's 9,418,524 minus 9,135,668 end of May = 282,856. Everyone be safe in USA for the Independence Day celebrations and go buy a new HDR release.

There are good ones coming, i've got six new HDR releases arriving this month.

I figure that’s a minimum of 9,400 views per day for this thread.

Boo-urns. So are they going back to OLED for pro monitors or looking at newer tech?

So, although not reported in the trade magazines, etc. or, for that matter, just recently here –

there were nearly 100 members of Local 600 involved in the production of Top Gun: Maverick.

I think if the pro light modulating cell layer panels remain accessible to Sony from a vendor, then they’ll stick with those as long as possible before transitioning to another tech, likely not back to OLED, which had its own problems and why Sony went to LMCLs (HX310 pro mastering monitor) in the first place.

Top Gun, extreme heat, global warning, forest fires, HDR, ...all that jazz.
AC when the temperature is between 40 and 50 excelsius is the ticket; without it you're cooked.

Hey, that’s only 150 miles as the crow flies from me.
If I wanted to drive it, would be 250 miles due to terrain.

Our forecast is at least 9 more days over 100F, even 111 next weekend.
Too devilishly Hot!

Lytton, BC ... 3 days in a row with the record heat temperature in all Canada is 90% gone now.
Forest fires are very active right now in BC; many have started by lightnings in the last few days alone. The west coast (California) is also bracing for fires.
I think it's going to be a hot fiery summer, with new records again.
What can we do?

Back to our hot topic...HDR

or, if that ^ movie doesn’t tickle your fancies, and you can tolerate SDR on NBCSN, then catch today’s Tour de France stage in the French Alps, that’ll cool you off. It certainly worked for me after this afternoon’s ride in the warm sun.
