^ that is not a fix. the solution proposed by that poster would be like throwing baby out with the bath water. the DV source content characterization metadata is (and does) account for the active picture area. any black level issues viewers have seen with this or that DV title using this or that home deliverable platform is of an implementation subsystem root cause.

no prob at home viewing latest spidey ultra hd blu-ray on my oled in DV

Dan, I ported this over from the DV thread, as I'm sure the HDR thread readers want the most recent charts here, too.

BTW, Can you contact Yoeri to get Oppo moved up into the HLG circle/ wedge as Oppo has been HLG compliant since just before their players got their Dolby Vision update? Would be a great help!

I hope this is the first of many more devices like it.
I sincerely hope that the conversion from HLG to HDR10 is done only in emergency, as a last resort. It should not be doing it as a matter of course!

Ha! That simply won't happen without a public press release from Oppo! Please read up earlier posts about updating the diagram to show Samsung's support for HLG. We all know that Samsung support HLG, but Samsung don't want to admit it, and until they do, it's never going to be shown as such on the diagram.

lots of WCG and dynamic range management related topic presented today at smpte conf, reporters should be covering later, meanwhile at lunch i was passed this podcast by someone from Deluxe (i.e. we are all still in the formative stage of HDR) -

start at 10min. mark and listen to for 3 min. to get the drift - http://coloristpodcast.com/episode-1...ign=TaoOfColor

perspective – during the last decade before everyone and his grandmother got their own blog or website and the internet went wild, bob was active on ‘tig’ here - http://tig.colorist.org/pipermail/tig/ along with pioneering colorists like peter doyle (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0236473/)

Default Apple streaming

Apple is using the 10-bit ST.2084 PQ single layer profile, HEVC Dolby Vision (Profile 5).
https://www.apple.com/apple-tv-4k/specs/

A single-layer Dolby Vision signal excluding dynamic metadata is similar to a HDR10 signal.
The Apple TV 4K has to output the "HDR10" signal and the newly created HDR10 static metadata to an HDR10 TV.

Apple TV 4K Dolby Vision vs HDR10 Picture Quality Comparison - YouTube
After getting used to Dolby Vision on disc, it is very difficult for me to go back to Dolby Vision of HDR10 on streaming...It is just not the same experience no matter what steraming device we use

Sure, disc is the best, but streaming is not far.

Apple TV 4K iTunes Movies (Dolby Vision HDR) vs 4K Blu-ray - YouTube
When you watch Dolby Vision content on streaming by itself it looks good, but if you go from watching Dolby Vision on disc to Dolby Vision on streaming real quick, while your eyes are still adjusted to disc quality, you will notice a big difference. I think that bandwidth is and will be the one biggest limiting factor for HDR to reach its full potential via streaming

Streaming is so close to reaching blu-ray quality - if only The United States didn't have an internet infrastructure comparable to a third world country we would have streaming at home available to us at blu-ray quality now.

They probably wouldn't give you Blu-ray or UHD Blu-ray quality anyway. It would take more server farms to hold the content.

They're working on the McDonald's principal... quantity "Trumps" quality.

If only the Winter Olympics would jump on this train. :sigh
Don't really see NBC (in US) going for this, although I suppose the event coverage is a pool feed used by all broadcasters. Seems there would be announcements already if 4K was going to happen.

Which makes perfect sense because - in case any of our listeners or newcomers are unware - DV and HDR10 use the same HDR transfer function at source. And this further underlines the fact that HDR10 grades aren't fixed "one light" presentations as some ill-informed sites and blogs would have us believe, they're as "active" in relation to light and dark as the colourist intends them to be - it's the metadata packet itself which is static or dynamic and it's the tailoring of THAT data to specific displays which allows for more accurate tone mapping of the content.
