Penton, are you using a calibrated display?
If yes how often are you recalibrating it? And last, flat panel, front projector or both? Happy Holiday Season to you and to all your family/friends. |

. All features in HDMI 2.1 are optional. ![]() . According to Jeff Park, Technical Director of HDMI LA, a HDMI 2.0 => HDMI 2.1 firmware upgrade is possible if the HDMI chipset was designed to be upgradable. https://cepro.ehmedia.co/webinar-confirmation11710499 Marantz can certify the available Marantz SR7012 for HDMI 2.1 eARC when the HDMI 2.1 Compliance Test Specification will be finalized. "eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel) supports the transmission of 3D audio from your TV apps with a single HDMI connection for the simplest setup. This feature will be enabled via a future firmware update." http://us.marantz.com/us/Products/Pa...oductId=SR7012 HDMI 2.1 eARC and HDMI 2.1 transmission of dynamic metadata should be features of high-end 2018 TV. |

In the back of my mind I figured if for any reason there was moviegoer hostility like in Burbank and it further degenerated into physical violence requiring sutures, staples and such…you can’t beat quick treatment from your neighbor who works down the street there in the ER. |

^ Not just consumer electronics TVs but, professional grading and reference 2000 nits capable monitors [from more than one manufacturer (based on Panasonic’s dual modulation architecture)] likely will make more noise next year. |

For example, TV makers can fully claim their only dynamic metadata transmission featured TV compliant HDMI 2.1, once successfully passed the future HDMI 2.1 dynamic metadata transmission compliance test. They should mention they support the HDMI 2.1 dynamic metadata transmission feature on their marketing sheets. The HDMI 2.1 compliance is not based on the HDMI chipset, a new full-featured HDMI 2.1 chipset or an upgraded chipset. It is only based on the HDMI 2.1 compliance tests. The absence of a full-featured HDMI 2.1 chipset should not become an excuse for not upgrading the current HDR TV to be compliant with the HDMI 2.1 dynamic metadata transmission in 2018. Obviously, these current TV should also be upgraded to support SMPTE ST 2094 Dolby Vision (to be interoperable with some future ATSC 3.0 STB), Technicolor HDR (aka SL-HDR1) and HDR10+ (to be interoperable with future external HDR10+ media players). |

So now I've got a new version of the Vimeo app that was just released today on my 2016 Samsung TV. HDR works on it, but only for these two videos:
https://vimeo.com/247719654 https://vimeo.com/247720006 All other videos on the channel, which are also tagged as HDR, do not playback in HDR, and neither do any other HDR videos on any other channels. Strange. |

^ Additionally, Samsung really messed this one up by only enabling the format on their new 2017 displays for now, which haven't sold well at all. So very few people on the planet actually have access to it.
Luckily, I haven't seen any negative effects on my display (either the LG or the 2016 Samsung) as a result of Amazon's conversion. Poor start all around, though. |
