I started the process of getting my original content on Amazon (Prime) video. My plan was to deliver it in HDR10, and maybe soon HDR10+.

However, interestingly, Amazon does not support 4K or HDR for any outside content. They only support it if they author it themselves. So for now I am restricted to 1080p Rec 709.

I contacted them, I hope we can work something out.

All the best with those Bezier guides.

Welcome back. During the accounting phase, I posted previously a few pages back that you lay dormant. Good to see something woke you up. Geoff had since taken over 2nd place.

Do you see any love for Amazon or Samsung in this picture?
HDR10+ is an open dynamic metadata HDR format, not a closed dynamic metadata HDR format like the more costly Dolby Vision - and more rival streaming services use Dolby Vision than HDR10+.

The love will be for whatever does the job in regards to dynamic metadata and is cheapest, which will be HDR10+.

In that case obviously Amazon is interested in the cheapest not the best.

He had an, ah, enforced hibernation from the boards. No doubt he'll get another vacation soon enough.

An extended absence would ultimately lead to ray or salty qualifying for the Champions League…

Not exactly hdr related, but more HFR related, Samsung's new Exynos 9810 for the Non-usa Galaxy S9/S9+ can shoot video at 4k 120fps. Yes, 120fps. No word yet if it will film in hdr at the same time.

I think the big news is that it uses film

Thanks. Hope more directors start adopting HFR in movies. It is sad that we have all these new technologies in film-making-4K, HDR, WCG-and yet we still rely on a 100-year-old frame rate

Personally, I think Geoff, Steed, Tob and I are most looking forward to more detail and clarity provided by the increased temporal resolution/high dynamic range of the content in the far upper right hand corner…

A couple interesting quotes:
Quote:
A remote post production facility was assembled near-set in London where film technician Simone Appleby expertly operated two real-time film scanners, digitizing up to 15,000 feet a day of 35mm footage at slightly above 4K resolution.
Quote:
Volpatto also oversaw the HDR pass and IMAX versions. Ultimately, multiple deliverables were created by FotoKem including standard DCP, HDR10, Dolby Vision, HLG, 3D (in standard, stereo Dolby and 2D Dolby HDR), and home video formats. FotoKem worked with IMAX to align the color science pipeline with their Xenon and laser DCPs and 15-perf 70mm prints as well.
The mention of HLG caught my eye. I can only assume an HLG grade is future-proofing for television systems that broadcast in HLG.
Has anyone heard of any other movies creating an HLG grade? I assumed TV and movies would stick to PQ and convert to HLG during broadcast (if needed). But I guess they will start adding HLG to the suite of standard deliverables.

Lots of HLG grading being created for "Broadcast". Pretty much assumed to not match any of the other HDR systems for media streaming or on disc.

A couple interesting quotes:
Unfortunately, despite all the self-promotion, it seems that more than one theater-goer (along with some of us here) has complained about the quality of the HDR -
