A step in the right direction:
Panasonic's flagship 2018 Ultra HD Blu-ray player supports Dolby Vision & HDR10+. https://www.flatpanelshd.com/news.ph...&id=1515296844 ![]() |

Also, good interview with Panasonic here: Great to see him asking the direct question about whether HDR10Plus over HDMI2.0 is possible, and getting an immediate direct unequivocal answer of YES. The more uncertainty that can be removed on this question, the better. |

Just as you could jury rig 300Mhz 1.4 HDMI chips to have certain basic 2.0 features like 4K60 @ 8-bit 4:2:0, it makes sense that existing 2.0 hardware could be updated accordingly with certain 2.1 features if the firmware backdoor was similarly left open. HDR10+ is just an additional packet of metadata after all, not some bandwidth-hungry change in resolution or whatever. HDMI 2.0a itself was simply about adding static metadata transmission (ST 2086) to the spec.
BUT even if/when a player or TV's HDMI chip can be updated with the correct signalling protocol you still need the video processing inside the actual display to be similarly updated of course. |

Not surprising at all. Credible people have been saying this would be the case for a while.

Otherwise, the HDR10+ compliant Panasonic TV is using the standard HDMI 2.1 transmission of dynamic metadata specified by the HDMI 2.1 standard (i.e. HDMI 2.1 / CTA-861-G HDR Dynamic Metadata Datablock & HDR Dynamic Metadata Infoframe) carried out by a HDMI 2.0 chipset, and waiting for a HDMI 2.1 Dynamic HDR certification once the HDMI 2.1 Compliance Test Specification finalized. |
