You guys have time for a pass-through question? When I bought my receiver two years ago, one of the selling points was 3d and 4k pass-through. So I was thinking that I should just be able to take my existing HDMI-out from my receiver and go straight into the TV. The 7100 comes with this odd dongle with extra HDMI inputs which the TV recognizes as Input One, Two, etc. If I have to use the dongle, fine, don't care. I remember when 4k Blu-Ray players first came out, and a writer for Blu-Ray.com apparently had a nightmare trying to get the thing to work, like Hanks, Paxton, and Bacon frantically scrambling and bypassing wires trying to survive in Apollo 13. I don't have a 4k 3D capable BRD (yet), I'm using a 3d-capable Sony Blu-Ray player and I'm counting on the TV to do the upscaling. Am I off-base in assuming that, thanks to the pass-through on the receiver, I should be good to go already just by using the 2.0 HDMI out from the receiver?
Thanks for the time. TV is now in Dallas, will probably be in San Antonio by Friday, but won't be delivered until Monday morning. I'm bouncing off the walls in anticipation. |

Did more digging...it doesn't pass-through HDCP 2.2 encrypted content. No biggie, when I get a 4k 3D blu-ray player later this year, I'll just send the blu signal to that goofy dongle and audio out to the receiver via optical (although there was a firmware update for the receiver last year...I'll have to see what that was all about...).
Thanks for the time and help. |

And get a receiver that does at least 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos and DTS:X decoding. You'll thank me as the extra effort to move to immersive surround is worth it. |
