I'm also a bit of a car enthusiast. Here's a pic of my 1966 Pontiac Le Mans in the Scarsdale NY Village Center.

You put me to shame. And here I felt good just for having hosed the mud off my around-the-town ride parked in the far background before taking this pic….https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...y#post14738595

The architecture of the surrounding buildings at the Village Center reminds me of Solvang. If you haven’t been, then I recommend (to anyone), as much to see and do there - https://www.solvangusa.com/things-to-do/

P.S.
b.t.w., the exterior of Don’s (https://www.linkedin.com/in/deklund/) house somewhat has that same sort of architectural facade look of the far left building in your pic too. Among other things, we’ve shared the same painter with some success. He’s actually more of a car enthusiast than I am, having even done the car auction thing.

Placebo effect, especially when the guy posting just before you just said "HDR10 looks like 4K and DV looks like 5K"

yes (again) :: "you are welcome anytime to come by (on my display) and agree/disagree judging together" :: if we 'both see it' (5K - just a 'relative term' to indicate and 'obvious' resolution improvement referenced to HDR10 content) then, perhaps an 'update' here?

"seeing is believing" :: i realize that this is controversial, especially as many seem to have difficulty seeing the differences relating to both distance guidelines and HD/UHD, but "what my eyes see" i recognize and communicate, regardless the consensus (which i am well aware of)

please :: take the time to come by sometime and judge for yourself (others that have - only a few to be honest - that see it as well - it's not just me seeing the differences in resolution)

Dolby Vision (resolution improvement) :: actually, it does make sense, if you take into account the collective improvements to the overall picture quality (improved aspects of image accuracy), it just 'might' manifest an 'improved' apparent/real resolution, which given the more natural and relaxing viewing experience might be discernible :: of course, the content (disc) must be a Dolby Vision title, having both Dolby Vision/HDR10 availability, that the same exact disc is used in comparison :: for what it's worth, i never 'looked for it', rather, over time viewing various content on disc, it simply 'was so/there' and i was surprised (somewhat) myself, especially given the widespread controversies regarding resolution, that carried to extremes indicate that HD/HDR10 is 'all that is needed' - perhaps you also agree that UHD is not important, only HD?

note :: i have two identical LG UP970 players that i use for these comparisons :: i always use the same input and the same cable for these comparisons :: and - one player is HDR10 (without the Dolby Vision firmware update) and the other player is Dolby Vision (August 2017 - firmware update) :: this represents about as fair a comparison as possible (most use different players, different cables, on different inputs)

Interesting article and a potential game changer:

MicroLED is the first new screen tech in a decade. Can it beat OLED?

If Samsung and Apple get their way, an array of millions of tiny LEDs could oust OLED as the next big display technology. But it won't be easy.

Funny you should say that as we're upgrading the audio system. I wanted to install a Dolby Atmos system, but could not get the overhead heights to work unless it was a cloudy day and we only take the convertible out on warm sunny days.

Just saw the Star Wars, Vizio and Dolby Vision commercial on CBS during the NCIS broadcast tonight. Wonder if it’s moving the needle on HDR sales/ DoVi ?

Canon introduced their new full frame sensor cinema camera, the EOS C700 FF. The size puts it in the same class as the Alexa LF, Sony Venice, and Red VistaVision. It's a 5.9k 17:9 sensor with 15 stops of dynamic range.

They also announced a couple of new HDR professional reference monitors. The DP-V2421 qualifies as a 1000 nit mastering monitor.

When watching upscaled standard blu rays on a 4k uhd player, should I place my tv in the hdr effect mode? Will this mode give sdr to my blu rays? Or does the upscaling happen automatically in any picture mode?

personal preference :: i suggest giving it a try and make your own decision (it's a subjective decision - entirely)

HDR Effect :: it's function is to artificially add HDR to non-HDR content (Apple TV 4K/DVD/HD/television programming, etc)

"upscaling" :: this would apply to improvement in resolution (different setting?)

HDR :: if you want to know how to enable this (LG OLED) - (settings - general - HDMI UltraHD Deep Color - 'on')
