With regards to SMPTE and ST 2086 (the official standard defining the Mastering Display Color Volume metadata set of values), this year, SMPTE will release an update (ST 2086:2018) that clarifies some value ranges.

Looking forward to the eventual Ultra HD Blu-ray in Dolby Vision of season 2.

Is that purely for documentation purposes or an actual alteration in how the metadata is encoded/transmitted/interpreted? If the latter then what are the chances of any gear being updated to match?

Me too and you never know, I might actually be able to watch it in DV on my ZD9 by then! Huzzah!

I can’t comment one way or another regarding specifics, only that end users shouldn’t worry at all about the update.

A PC HDR issue: MadVR cannot output HDR to SONY 75Z9D TV.

MadVR HDR settings:
- Passthrough HDR
- Send HDR metadata to monitor

PC output:
Intel UHD630 via motherboard's HDMI 2.0 port (MegaChips MCDP2800)
Graphic driver is properly installed.

TV input:
HDMI 2 (2 & 3 support 4K @ 60Hz, 1 & 4 support 4K @ 30Hz, all support HDR)
Firmware is the latest.

PowerDVD can output HDR in this hardware circumstance but PowerDVD can only output 4K UHD BD Disc's HDR.

Someone says that I must enable MadVR's exclusive mode in order to successfully send HDR signal from PC to TV. Is it true?

That’s beyond the scope of my experience, perhaps one of the PC/madVR guys can help you out.

Did you mean for this post to be in The First UHD Blu-ray Drive thread?
Excuse me if you meant for it to be here.

Public Service Announcement
(as I know how much you videophiles count on your eyes to thoroughly enjoy this hobby, be it nit picking or not). Shingles can lead to vision loss….https://www.cdc.gov/shingles/about/complications.html
And even blindness -

So, there is a relatively new vaccine out on the market called Shingrix (and much more efficacious than thee old vaccine for Shingles which is called Zostavax) which was approved by the FDA last October. The CDC now recommends that folks 50 years and older get the Shingrix vaccine. Thing is, now several months later, insurance companies are beginning to cover the vaccine at no charge, e.g. http://rbgsocal.com/unitedhealthcare...tive-benefits/.

It would be wise for one to get it unless one has any personal contraindications. If you’re 50 years and older, you don’t even need a doctor’s prescription, just show up at a facility that stocks and administers them.

That may change, as I understand several aspects of HDR as it is now exists are being rethought by the powers-that-be.
Any comment on this from our insiders?
