Lovely location, but no not Victoria, last time I was in Victoria, my wife and I had tea at the Fairmont Empress and I nearly had a stroke when I saw the tab.
MAL and PPL from the mainland, Vancouver - http://vccimaging.org/Publications/D...htSteering.pdf Vancouver seems not only to be a hotbed for mountain biking, but also for advanced intellectual thought so it’s only fitting that the next ACM SAP conference is being held there - http://sap.acm.org/2018/cfp.php . For those sticklers, to tie on-topic, note the bullet point - • Perception of high dynamic range scenes and images P.S. Similarly, the city of Vancouver also has been the venue for past Blu-ray Disc association meetings, e.g. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...er#post4824830 Last edited by Penton-Man; 04-30-2018 at 03:00 AM. Reason: added a P.S. |

Have you made a decision yet about hosting a 2nd (additional) TV shootout this year? If it’s on, please this time list your complementary food and beverage menu that I presume you’ll have for attendees, for last time I watched the classic event on Youtube when it was at your store, I got hungry just wondering what food you had in that spread pictured in the video. The suspense involving the TVs is enough, spill the beans on the food and drink from the get-go, will ya? Last edited by Penton-Man; 04-30-2018 at 09:37 PM. Reason: added the phrase “calibration without the need….modes” for clarity |

If you own all of those, then the Calman software can use the Pattern generator and the colorimeter to do an "autocal" on the TV. Gaining The Knowledge is something I'm in the process of doing, it's pretty daunting but can be rewarding. |

Sometime when they have an open house you should go over there - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...g#post11978953 , check out what HDR research the students and Ph.D.’s are involved with and maybe provide your perspective as an avid HDR end user.

I know, I lived there before for few years. But thx anyway for the suggestion. I could always take the ferry and stay over couple nights in a cheap hotel downtown. Take the transit bus to UBC. It's a nice spot with views on the ocean. There's a nude beach too. |

Good Luck
![]() Most regular readers here will remember Howard from ‘Appendix E: Case Studies’ way down on p.37 before the included spiel on Ultra HD Blu-Ray of the SMPTE Study Group Report High-Dynamic-Range (HDR) Imaging Ecosystem https://www.smpte.org/sites/default/...-Ecosystem.pdf which I linked on Blu-ray.com I think the day. or perhaps the day following it was made public. |

It's not very nice in the middle of summer with all the traffic when you go from Vancouver to Victoria, on long holiday weekends, and it takes all together six or eight hours! Best is to get a charter flight and rent a car on the other side. ...Or take the fast yacht from Seattle. * Do you know how much is a gallon of gas (premium) in Victoria, today, on average? Eight dollars! Of course it's in Canadian dollars, but still. It's because of the whales. ;-) Last edited by LordoftheRings; 05-01-2018 at 02:08 AM. |
