These days with HDR and such, marketers seem fascinated with our eyes, for example, in this new promo - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9uxFNRUmTY#t=38s

with that in mind, from last Sunday’s 60 Minutes show(start at the beginning)….https://www.cbs.com/shows/60_minutes...olars-seaweed/

an application of CRISPR for restoring visual function in those so afflicted….https://health.ucsd.edu/news/release...igmentosa.aspx

This one seems completely EPIC to me...

And I can watch my Despecialized Star Wars original version in 720 courtesy of the interwebs, and my Laserdisc CAV set, DVD, and Bluray. (Never bought this on tape, as I somehow knew something better would eventually come along, and the LD did !! )

It does seem to be so. With not just having the opportunity to get out the house and view a movie on a really big screen, but learn nuggets of info from various filmmakers on how they do/think of making the magic happen, e.g…..

Now off to ride with the buds before it gets too hot out there. I’ve got about ¾ hr. to get my arse over to the staging area, so later.

I had a right proper Cinco de Mayo. Started the day off at my kids soccer jamboree. Then went out for huevos rancheros. Did the family thing around the house then it was time to find my lost shaker of salt and head to Margaritaville.

How about you? And if it involves bike riding it also better involve a blender, tequila and limes.

kind to ask
no electric hook-up for a blender, I'll explain more fully in a few minutes once I find an illustrative YouTube link and/or associated pic.

A good fast paced intense group ride (lawyer, doctor, studio folk [engineers who be in the trenches as well as suit/blazer wearing types]) on a freakin hot day and then returned to a shelter having outdoor barbecue grills we’d reserved in the local park bordering the trails (can actually ride our bikes right up to the shelter, drop them and then collapse with exhaustion).

Kindly waiting for us were our non-riding spouses (who worked as hard as we did ridin) by preparing all the ingredients for our burritos between bites washed down with a couple shots of Casamigos Tequila (https://casamigostequila.com/age-gate/?ajax=true) and from the ice coolers, real cold beer, namely, Modelo in honor of…..

One of the best things about it was good conversation all around and the fact that everyone purposely turned off their cell phones as some things take priority on one’s day off.

I come to this thread to learn, as the world of HDR is very new to me. I'm having a problem and can't seem to find a resolution. I know every individual set is different in how they handle things, so looking up recommended settings is dopey, but I think this goes beyond that.

Green blacks. Don't get too carried away, they aren't pronounced green black, but there's a kind of curve towards green in the blacks I haven't been able to sort out.

My set has a definite green push to it. It's not something easily addressed by something so simple as Tint/Color Hue. I'll watch, say, The Two Towers on Blu-Ray, or Interstellar, and while the letterboxed borders are as black as black could be, the blacks in the actual film image carry a faint green push. I doubt any of my friends and family would notice unless I mentioned it to them, but I see it, and it's driving me a little batty, because I can't solve the riddle while knowing there must be a resolution. I've calibrated the tint and the color settings using my tools, I don't know where this dark, dark olive green in my blacks, only seen in certain shots, is coming from.

Display is a Sony 55X930D
Player is the Sony UBD-X800
Receiver is the Sony STR-DN840

Any education and help would be greatly appreciated. It's nagging me so much, I'm thinking about hiring someone to come and sort it out. Annoying I can't figure it out on my own.

It's a RGB balance issue, to much green possibly in offset or cuts. Try lowering Green until it's no longer visible in black.

@Ernest Rister
Went to Advance Color Settings for the RGB (I've had them all at factory default), dropped the green by about 25% in all three categories...definite improvement, but I'm not sure all three should have been adjusted in that kind of fashion. I have a feeling I'll be messing with these forever if I don't tackle it. Can anyone recommend a pro-tools disc for color calibration for 4k RGB settings or weblinks for education/info?

That sounds like a lot of net worth riding bikes. If a mountain lion jumped out he'd be dining at Ruth's Chris.

Speaking of celebrity tequilas, I'm quite intrigued by The Rock https://www.esquire.com/food-drink/d...-mana-tequila/

All in all sounds like you had a fantastic day, sans the bike riding.

This might only be dialled out properly with a genuine calibration using a colourimeter and software. But FWIW sometimes adjusting the other colours in the white balance controls, i.e. not the one that seems to be the problem, can adjust the temperature into the place you want. Trouble is it might then affect other parts of the greyscale which you won't know about until you watch other content, so again a proper metered calibration might be the only solution. Don't adjust the Tint/Hue control whatever you do though, that's a rather old fashioned control to have and it's pretty useless in today's HD world.

Rite of passage - back in the day when I defended my thesis, it was in a small room full of assistant, associate and full professors with no sound or video recordings……just donuts, who grilled me for what seemed an eternity following my presentation….finally laying off and granting my advanced degree I think after learning from my mentor (full Professor) who nonchalantly revealed to everyone during his questioning to me that my research had recently been accepted for publication in a rather prestigious peer reviewed scientific journal.
