Anyone here plan on capturing their local 4th of July fireworks displays in HLG HDR with their smartphones (e.g. https://www.dpreview.com/news/045165...to-smartphones) or cameras?

I’d think the HDR Channel awaits…..https://twitter.com/TheHDRChannel

I was having trouble sleeping and the wife said why don't you watch that soccer thing? Zzzzz. Best night sleep I've had in four years.

Now remember, kids. Guys with an eye patch and three fingers sell the best fireworks. Have a great 4th!!!

Haha! True dat! Brings back memories of real Roman candles and great Bottle rockets from teen years. We had a dog who would chase every rocket like she thought she could catch one. Then she’d be off after the next one...

yes, sometimes I can see it as a substitute for zolpidem with some matches especially when the Spanish teams play, or some teams just bunker down and park the bus all game long, but to be fair I think this tournament has had a few spectacularly exciting matches, e.g.

even better if you’ve got access to the 4K HDR feeds.
Regardless, in the grand scheme of things, I think more and more families in the future will embrace soccer as an alternative to having a son of 21 years with the brain of a 65 year old….

Inside info – from back in the day, I exclusively revealed to fellow owners that Denzel W. bought one of early Qualia 006 TVs (delivered on Feb. 14, 2005 to his pool house, no less).

I’m looking forward to seeing him again in The Equalizer 2 in Dolby Vision - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3766354/ which was graded by one of the few colorists in Hollywood (Stefan S.) who commands this rate/hr., f. - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...s#post15230519

Except Teller's about 5 years too young to play Goose's kid who was 2-3 years old in 1986 but Teller wasn't born until 1988.

Peter, it’s Hollywood and literary license exists with lots of movies(Dolby Vision), e.g. https://www.azcentral.com/story/news...rom=new-cookie

Takeaway message on this 4th to the pyrotechnic do-it-yourself-ers: Be careful, as fireworks can also cause forest fires. And no matter what the cause, don’t recklessly place yourself or others in danger of the flame. Remembering some of the best….

Why not just embrace tennis or golf instead then, if your concern is the severity of injuries? As effeminate and soft of a sport that soccer is, you still see plenty of injuries, including concussions.

Anyways, soccer will never reach the heights of football in North America. Football is a great sport - one that takes vastly more intellect and strategy to play than any other sport, including and especially soccer. The rest of the world can keep their snoozefest.

I hope a side benefit of Top Gun: Maverick is that it increases recruitment like Top Gun did back in the day.

Not to drift too far off topic but to finish up. With regards to heading the ball in soccer, I believe it should be banned in practice and games for all under 13s, not just kids aged 10 years and younger which I think is the current AYSO rule as better to be safe than sorry given the limited research we have with soccer and CTE. As to older age groups and the pros, changes with regards to current practices may well have to be made following more research ever since the University College London study was published and raised eyebrows.

Personally, I love American football too and played tackle football on a school squad thru grade school and thru mid-high school in an ‘A’ conference league, until I then made the complete switch to soccer exclusively for a fall sport and it had nothing to do with the fear of getting injured in football, rather I really wanted to play a Varsity sport at a collegiate level and there was no future in American football for me as although being quite fast and agile, I was simply too small to have that ever happen, at least not at a major university like I wanted to attend.

With all sports, parents should understand exactly what they are signing their kids up for as many kids think they’re invincible to begin with, or ‘it may happen to the other guy or girl, but not to me’ attitude. CTE (which we are still learning about) or a traumatic spinal cord injury which can also occur in football is a helluva lot different in terms of a life altering event than a broken bone or ligamentous/meniscal tear which are more common soccer related injuries.

I agree “it’s unrealistic to say that soccer will quickly become more popular than football. That kind of shift in popularity takes decades” but - https://www.huffingtonpost.com/shane...b_9730440.html . I think at last count 30% of all households have a family member playing soccer. Maybe someday we’ll develop a national team that is competitive enough to advance deep into the World Cup tournament.

P.S.
My personal injury list categorized by sport (only pussies innumerate muscle strains, contusions and lacerations requiring sutures or staples which I’ve had my share but don’t include here) –

American football – 0 fractures, 0 surgeries
Soccer – 1 fracture, 3 knee surgeries
Motorcycle, bicycle racing – too many fractures, dislocations and surgeries to count. Major concern is having acquired atrial fibrillation (http://www.drjohnm.org/2011/04/cw-tr...tough-choices/) which predisposes me to having a stroke or, even much less likely but possible – sudden cardiac death.

After all of the above, recent CT and MRI shows no evidence of CTE, so that's a plus.

I know the OLED technology has won many awards for presenting the best quality picture and even with its limited peak brightness that the ability to go totally black makes for a great picture but until OLED technology can overcome problems such as this I will never consider it.

At the SID Display Week 2018 in May at Los Angeles Convention Center, LG's OLED TV and Samsung Electronics' QLED TV were displayed in tandem by Nanosys, a quantum dot developer at its booth.
Don't you find it interesting that an quantum dot developer had this situation on display?
