Trolling?
It's a joke, obviously.
I mean THX last put out a press release in may about them doing anything bar selling a logo.
Mcdonolds put out new things on a weekly basis.
No comparison really.

Only streaming for now, and only in the alpha build. They will want to test things out first. However, it's pretty much a lock that discs, and even games, will be supported in the future.

I find it funny that Microsoft added Dolby Vision to their console before Sony. The Xbox One X just continues to kick the PS4 Pro's ass.

Fair enough, though I'm an emissive junkie so will always defer to it when given the choice. I have almost been put off completely by the streaking situation, but I guess the cognoscenti has had a lasting effect (I actually blame the decade's old Kuro experience/awakening ). For all its faults, it is still taking names at the yearly shootouts for cinematic superiority.

You have a link, I have yet to find anything to suggest it wouldn't. Disney has a pretty close relationship with Dolby, so unless that relationship has fractured I expect DV streaming and disc support to continue.

Also, after the BP release, I don't think they feel the need to announce support. I would like them to employ actual frame by frame or scene by scene grading.

The press release only mentioned DV available on digital. The assumption on the other board is that the disc won't have DV. But yes, it's not confirmed at this point.

But they are screwing over Dolby Atmos listeners with their "printed to 7.1.4" versions. Instead of allowing proper objects like Atmos can handle, they are rendering the audio mix "out" as fixed 7.1.4 positions, which is what the disastrous DTS:X disc releases currently do (even though it, too, supports proper objects).
Users who have "front wide" speakers are up in arms about it. That's definitely something Disney have done to screw over Dolby's customers, even if it's not dolby vision.

A BDA insider on the forums said 3 or 4 days ago that the disc didnt have Dolby Vision. So perhaps that's where you missed the info?

Here it appears to be confirmed only a couple hours ago.

Yea. John has asked for clarification for why they skipped Dolby Vision on the disc. I'll post back if they reply. But seeing that it's Friday night, might not be til Monday but we'll see.

Odd, to say the least. With Star Wars TLJ and BP getting DV support, it appeared to be a no brainer that IW would receive the same treatment.

It's possible, that decision is made by the director and cinematographer. If they have no plans to actually do a scene by scene or frame by frame grade, then the visual differences will not be significant enough to warrant the enhancement layer and additional hours to cost, while it's in the hands of the colorist.

Streaming on Vudu will use color model ICtCp, which is currently not a part of UHD spec.

I know it does, but when you pack the room with OLED fans a win is a foregone conclusion.

Just chiming in to say I love this thread. It's much appreciated.

Oh, I've been out of town for over two weeks, off the grid camping...came home and my refrigerator had died. Must have happened the weekend we left. You don't want to know what thawed cod and shrimp and beef and vegetables will do when shut in an unrefrigerated dark space for two weeks. Going to take a while to get the smell out of the house.

I think appliance failures are a way for the Universe to remind me to wait before I buy new home theater toys, because I've had a new receiver on the brain. So I come home ready to look at receiver reviews, the Universe laughs at me, has other plans for my weekend.

So the vote is rigged, you're saying . I thought they set the TVs up so that you can't tell which is which?

@Ernest Rister, that sounds really terrible! I know I couldn't survive camping for two weeks without access to my internet, TV and AVR. How awful for you. ps good luck with the smell.

How would you explain every well respected video reviewers independently saying OLED delivers the best picture quality?

MLL is the best on OLED displays.

OLED displays have 8,300,000 individual local dimming zones that deliver several picture quality performance advantages over back-lit display technology.

OLED TVs enjoy the best off axis viewing performance.

Pack any room with video enthusiasts and you will consistently have the same conclusion.

With all that said LCD/LED have advantages over OLED. Specifically, viewing in high ambient light conditions, and the cost when you go over the 65" screen size. Plus, LCD/LED and Q-dot displays have very nicely improved to get closer the the performance of emissive display technology. Samsung has proven that with the Q9FN and I'm optimistic Sony's Z9F will be an exceptional high performance TV in every attribute.

OLED ain't perfect, but what it can do with blacks is a dream come true. I've never liked the way letterbox bars looked (not enough to want cropping but still) and for a decade I wondered if it would be possible to have a technology that could make them invisible in a dark room, like the pixels displaying the bars was off. OLED is literally that, and as much as I loved the Plasma and Laser DLPs I've had in the past, my C6 is what I feel like I've been waiting for. It's the best SDR performance I've ever seen.

As far as HDR performance goes, OLED can still improve, but I'm happy with what my 2016 model can do.

They don't?
The zd9 and the newest Samsung are rated higher this year, and yet the zd9 is very old now

There's no perfect display.
I have an OLED, and it's the hottest, sexiest thing I've ever seen.
Outside of that... I don't think I would attempt to try and "prove otherwise" to anyone. I'm happy. Too bad so much 4k technology has its own problematic methods in terms of how stuff is presented from one display to another.
But serously... going from plasma to OLED was insane. Individual pixel clarity is awesome.
Does everyone feel that way? Nah.
I'm happy, though.

With the most recent firmware update from Oppo for the 203/205, it now allows you to decide where the Dolby Vision decoding takes place -- in the TV, or in the 203/205. What would be the benefit of allowing the player to do the DV decoding?
