Indeed, I am beginning to learn more about how HDR works and how it's actually a separate setting in the menu system; if you are running three different output standards, doesn't this mean you have to switch these modes everytime you play a different kind of disc/media? That would get tiring real quick for me... That said, I don't know what is best for my Samsung -- being that I am not connected to a UHD player as of yet (just a Blu-ray player), should I just leave the HDR+ mode of my display OFF and calibrate/adjust in one of the "regular" picture modes? |

I figured as much, Ray; this is very disheartening, as I own a great many DVDs (and Blu-rays of older titles) that I know won't show up well on this bigger screen...the thing is, with my example of Tales From the Hood on Blu-ray, this disc always looked pretty great on my last 50" SXRD and upstairs on my (much smaller) 40" LG. I don't understand how it looked SO atrocious on the new screen save for maybe the screen size bringing out inherent flaws.

Maybe it looks good though, I don't know... reminds me of the concept of using the TV "fake" 3d conversion for movies... without assigning correct depth parameters, etc... you will get strange results. |

Not to mention, the fact that the panel is 4k hurts it as well. It has to be upscaled and upscaling is not quite up to par yet for lower quality sources. |

Someone deleted that post, it beats me because the links were very informative. I would ask to whoever deleted that post to put it back please. It was probably a mistake because positive posts don't get deleted, right. • https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sa...u8000/settings Last edited by LordoftheRings; 07-28-2018 at 06:50 AM. |

China is just bigger, but yes, UK and Europe, more than USA and Canada.
The economy is splendid in the USA (and Russia); I expect to see the return of 3D as soon as things adjust themselves in due time and better organisation. ...Same for HDR and its derivative...Dolby Vision. ...Without prescription glasses. Mexico will also benefit, but not Canada, unfortunately. We are just too stubborn and don't grab an economic opportunity when it is offered to us by a great dealer. Yes, I understand that, but in the case of Tales From the Hood (the example disc I pointed out) it was a 1080p Blu-ray, so the upconversion wasn't AS intensive as, say, for a DVD (though in my system, the DVDs are being upscaled first by the excellent Oppo BDP-83 to 1080p and then to 4K by the Samsung).

I have only good things to say about Blu-ray forum and all its members. It must have been a mistake, it has to, it cannot be anything else, impossible. I'm glad rtings has a great review of your HDR 4K TV, and with that great section on the Settings. And by the way, I'm also glad that someone saw the true light and gave you back fair life. Cheers, |

Eh, if you had the exact same TV with exact same size & specs only the panel was 1080p then I'd bet cash money it would still look just as shitty to Mr IntelliVolume. Dialling in the proper settings always helps with lower quality stuff, I mean if it's got genuine technical issues (DNR, EE, poor compression, what have you) then it will only look worse the bigger and better you go, but if a source is merely mediocre then you sure as heck don't want lots of goofy enhancement crap ladling on more processing. I watched Threads, a PAL 576i50 DVD of a show shot on 16mm, a few months back upscaled to 2160p50 on my 65" telly and it looked excellent for what it is.
