"Standard" and "Movie" aren't "non-HDR modes". They are modes which auto-switch, and store two sets of values. They are effectively two modes of each, like Movie-SDR and Movie-HDR, but the TV does not tell you which it is in. It just calls both of them by the main name, eg "Movie".
My Q9FN indicates HDR modes on the little picture-icon. It will go from Movie to Movie HDR. I think he mentioned he's using an NU model, which is 2018, so should be running similar firmware to the Q9FN series. Dunno.

Streaming only doesn't help anything. It probably means they don't have the processing power for disc based DV as that is a more "robust" version.

To tell if the TV has switched to HDR, go to the Expert Settings and if it's switched to Backlight=20 Contrast=100 then it's in its HDR set of settings for that mode. You can, and should, set the other things to your taste (eg dynamic contrast, etc).

Also, if it's an HDMI input, the Info banner tells you if it's HDR - see picture below. So, use the remote to get to the Info banner. It's a single key-press on the proper remote with all the keys; buried in a sub-menu somewhere on the so-called "smart" remote.

But that only works for external sources: if it's USB or an internal app, you have to use the "look at the backlight number in Expert settings, and work it out" method.

HDR doesn't max out contrast and backlight anymore on Samsung tvs. It just remembers your saved settings. So if you last used backlight at 12 with HDR, that's what it'll go to when it switches over. Only if you have it saved at max, will it switch over to max.

I mean serious perspective buyers should (based on experience) have at least a rough idea as to what the prices will be despite them not being officially announced yet. Heck, if you’re #1, Robert may toss in an unexpected perk.

I'm just waiting for the 3D bad news, or confirmation about the good news, right between.
Can you help?

If 3D was supported by the Z9F it would say in the specs. It does not say, so 3D is Gunn...caput.

Is there some good news somewhere?

- Disney ditched 3D.
- Disney ditched DV.
- Disney ditched Dolby Atmos by compressing it.
- Disney ditched James Gunn (oops, that's not bad news).

Sony and Panasonic seems to be the only good news on improving HDR, but still missing some important ingredients.

Yesterday I should have gone to bed; today is no different than yesterday.
